Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Lead   in Redmond, Washington

As a Principal Software Engineering Lead, you will spearhead the development of our core game loop experience on PC, managing a team of skilled engineers. You will be responsible for engineering seamless gaming experiences, collaborating with external partners to integrate their launchers into the Xbox app, and co-developing our gaming runtime service to deliver innovation and a top-tier experience. Your role will involve working closely with product managers to prioritize projects that make a significant impact, contributing to a shared infrastructure project that will revolutionize user experiences across devices, and utilizing data intelligence to evaluate customer usage and address issues swiftly.

In this role, you will enhance your experience in engineering seamless PC gaming experiences, including game installation, management, and creating innovative ways for users to discover our extensive gaming library. You will learn the intricacies of collaborating with external partners to integrate their launchers into the Xbox app and refine our SDK for effortless integration. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to co-develop our gaming runtime service, concentrating on innovation to provide a superior experience. Responsibilities

  • Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.

  • Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).

  • Guides team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders.

  • Guides team and acts as an expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and monitors other engineers across product lines, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Leads product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications (RQs/MQs)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, and JavaScript.

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience. 

Additional or Preferred Qualifications (PQs)

  • 2+ years experience with Windows client development, including Win32 and UWP

  • OR equivalent experience

  • 2+ years experience with React or React Native

  • Deeply committed to understanding and serving the needs of gamers, with a desire to learn about our players.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
