Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Manager in Redmond, Washington

Our team is seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager to join us to deliver on our collaborative work management charter to deliver and grow business through premium value. You will be responsible for leading an engineering team chartered to design, implement, and deploy the Azure services that enable Multi-Agent orchestration and reasoning to power agentic AI experiences within Planner app. Your team will be responsible for the design, operation, and monitoring of various software components within the Teams and Planner ecosystem. A big part of your role is ensuring our engineering work is tightly bound to our growth priorities and objectives.

You will partner closely with leaders in Product Management, design, user research and marketing to deliver innovative and impactful solutions that reach millions of customers worldwide.  You will also get an opportunity to collaborate with other AI platform teams inside Microsoft to bring to life agentic experiences and other AI features.

Responsibilities

  • Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, client teams and partner teams) to determine user requirements within and across teams.

  • Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).

  • Guides team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers).

  • Guides team and acts as an expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and monitors other engineers across product lines, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Leads product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations.

  • Innovates and makes service deployment and maintenance an efficient well-oiled machine that provides reliability with minimal manual engineer intervention.

  • Mentors and grows the energetic, diverse, and driven team with a good mix of senior, mid-level talent.

  • Drives a Live Site culture within the organization to ensure services truly delight our customers/partners.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
