Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft is experiencing unprecedented cloud growth, and the Cloud Operations + Innovations organization (CO+I) builds and maintains the datacenters Microsoft uses worldwide.

Automation is key to sustain this growth, and our team specializes in using both conventional Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) techniques and Large Language Model (LLM) to achieve a level of automation that would not be attainable with more traditional software engineering. These intelligent systems work across multiple specializations in the datacenter space. For example, they empower technicians in datacenters to service computers more rapidly and with greater accuracy and greater impact using the collective intelligence of other technicians worldwide.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will specialize in creating user interfaces primarily using React and Typescript to create AI assistants and automated workflows. You will also have opportunities to work on the back end where we use combinations of LLM's, Python, C#, Numpy, Pandas, TensorFlow, Kubernetes, Azure, web services, Linux, databases, vector databases, and other cloud technologies and libraries. You will collaborate with data scientists, customers, other engineering teams and datacenter personnel to create integrated systems that accelerate the business and delight users. Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.

  • Drives design and development of the service.

  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).

  • Collaborates with engineers, customers, data scientists and subject matter experts to determine approaches, implement and continuously improve solutions.

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.

  • Proactively stays informed about the latest developments in the LLM and AI field to identify opportunities to apply new methods or technologies to improve while also monitoring and improving availability, efficiency and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical disciplineAND 4+ yearstechnical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonoORequivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

• Experience developing React user interfaces in a professional environment.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
