Microsoft Corporation Senior Technical Writer in Redmond, Washington

We are the Modern Work Skilling content team, and we’re looking for a creative Senior Technical Writer to join us. We create high-impact technical guidance that helps our customers get the most out of Microsoft 365 for their business scenarios. As a member of the team, you'll help people in all kinds of organizations understand, plan, set up, and manage the latest cloud services from Microsoft, focusing on Microsoft Teams Phone and Teams Premium. Your content creation and technical knowledge will help customers digitally transform their organization for hybrid work and unlock the value of AI in a secure and effective way to achieve more. You’ll work with a variety of stakeholders across organizations to define content strategy, investments and tradeoffs. You’ll analyze data to drive content improvements and work with internal stakeholders to keep content healthy and relevant. You’ll envision content experiences of the future by following the latest innovations in generative AI that will shape how customers around the globe get technical guidance and help.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a large content portfolio that covers highly technical products created by multiple teams.

  • Study content analytics and customer feedback to inform your content strategy then work with stakeholders to drive that strategy.

  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to educate customers (especially IT Pros and admins) about products through the creation and maintenance of accurate and complete technical guidance.

  • Drive communication between content and stakeholder teams. Review writing contributions from stakeholders and vendors.

  • Design and write strategic end-to-end guidance anchored in real-world customer scenarios.

  • Envision and drive experiments to test out new ideas to create and deliver technical guidance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in writing, content design, information technology (IT)

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience writing about complex software deployment and configuration scenarios for IT Pro and admin audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years experience in writing, content design, or information technology (IT)

  • OR 4+ years of proven writing, content design, IT,

  • OR Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, English, Writing, Journalism, Communications or related field

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 1+ year(s) project leadership/management experience.

  • 5+ years experience in a related technical domain.

  • Proven project management skills.

  • Portfolio of writing samples for review.

  • Familiarity with telephony concepts (PBX systems, PSTN connectivity, wired and wireless communications, emergency services, VoIP technology).

  • Familiarity with networking and data communications concepts related to voice deployments and call quality.

  • Familiarity with authoring tools, GitHub preferred.

Technical Writing IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
