Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

The Customer Focused Engineering (CFE) team as part of the Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) organization at Microsoft supports the Windows OS and Azure infrastructure across consumer, enterprise, and Microsoft Cloud customers. The CFE team works across multiple areas spanning from Azure services to the Windows OS itself – encompassing Licensing, Virtualization and Container Technologies, Shell, Server Technologies involving File Server, High Availability Services, Hybrid Storage Services, File Systems and Storage components, Enterprise and IoT solutions, OS Security and Networking for Client and Server/Datacenter infrastructure, as well as ensuring the Microsoft Cloud is always up to date with minimal downtime. The CFE team is looking for a Software Engineer II to support our mission to grow the world’s trust in Microsoft through essential services and delightful, personalized Window experiences.

As a Software Engineer II, you will build quality systems and services directly impacting hundreds of millions of devices every month. The updates you engineer will keep Microsoft customers safe from the ever-growing threats of cyberattacks and keep them productive in today’s rapidly changing technical landscape. Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain software and services at scale, innovating on the latest technologies and following modern engineering practices.

  • Engineer and deploy high quality and timely updates to address security vulnerabilities and protect Microsoft customers from cyber threats.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to deliver features and enhancements in an agile development environment.

  • Investigate and address complex technical issues related to Windows OS and Azure services.

  • Utilize debugging tools, analyze system logs, and collaborate with other engineering teams to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

  • Implement and enforce best practices and compliance standards related to security, privacy, and data protection for Windows OS.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers and interns on technical challenges and project tasks.

  • Foster a collaborative learning environment by sharing expertise, reviewing code, and offering constructive feedback to help develop their skills and knowledge.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in Networking, Containers, Network Security & related technologies.

  • Experience problem-solving, debugging and troubleshooting.

  • Design and development experience.

  • Experience with system programming.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
