Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

Do you have a passion for engineering and a talent for solving complex problems? Do you want to work on the Operating System (OS) platform that powers Azure? The Core Operating System (OS) team is seeking a talented Software Engineer II who can handle live site operations and ensure the smooth running of the Operating System (OS) underlying the Azure platform. The team is responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of the Operating System (OS) platform that supports core services and virtual machines in Azure. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to design and implement solutions that improve the Operating System (OS) platform and deliver value to our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new automation solutions for incident analysis and hands-off mitigation.

  • Collect and analyze data on various metrics to identify key areas to invest engineering opportunities.

  • Investigate, diagnose, and mitigate key issues impacting the Operating System (OS) platform.

  • Rotation in a live site operations team with a 25% load of on-call duties (split between a primary and backup role) supporting Redmond daytime hours, 8AM-9PM PST

  • Shifting rotation will occasionally have weekend on-call requirements but will be offset with weekday time off.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Rotation in a live site operations team with a 25% load of on-call duties (split between a primary and a back up role) supporting Redmond daytime hours, 8AM-9PM PST

  • 2+ years of experience in building and shipping production grade software or services

  • 1+ years of experience supporting production systems in a live site model

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience

  • Experience leading technical projects end-to-end.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience working with distributed systems in a cloud environment.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
