Akima Indoor Sprinkler System Technician in Redstone Arsenal, Alabama

Works on various types of fire sprinkler systems, kitchen hood systems, and related systems by performing one or a combination of the following: component installation, maintaining, repairing, overhauling, troubleshooting, modifying, constructing, and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to install, inspect, maintain, and repair fire sprinkler systems and kitchen hoods in accordance with relevant codes.

  • Bypasses associated fire alarm systems while performing work on fire sprinkler systems to prevent alarm activation and emergency response.

  • Functionalknowledge of all types of Fire Sprinkler Systems (wet,dry, pre-action, deluge, fire pumps, etc.) Knowledge of backflows and standpipes. Knowledge of kitchen hood systems.

  • Perform fire sprinkler inspections including Wet, Dry, Pre-action, Foam, Deluge, Ultra• Highspeed deluge,Fire Pumps, Backflow,etc. Cut,thread, groove, and solder pipe.

  • Assemble and install a variety of metal andnon-metalpipes, tubes and fittings to include" but not limitedto iron, steel, copper and plastic.

  • Perform kitchen hood suppression system inspections.

  • Provide emergency service to investigate and diagnose fire alarm and trouble conditions and take corrective action to bring system back to a normaland armed condition.

  • May provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • May perform work in other classifications when incidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another job classification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustments applicable.

  • Maintain accurate and precise documentation daily, preparing accurate and timely inspection reports and completed daily.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years’ experience required in servicing mechanical systems in the Fire Alarm or Special Hazard/ Fire Suppression industry.

  • Successful completion of two year’s formal training. One year of experience may be substituted for one-year formal training.

  • Journeyman Plumber or Pipefitter.

  • Must have a working knowledge of the National Fire Protection Association, UFCor similar Fire System Codes.

  • Must have a working knowledge of various fire suppression systems (i.e. Water (wet & dry,pre-action, deluge,wet chemical and foam) and how to secure them for testing.

  • Must have a working knowledge of testing and repairing fire systems installed for cooking/kitchen hoods and how to secure them for testing.

  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in confined and/or high spaces.

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints,schematics, and other technical specifications.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Must maintain hand tools of the trade to perform the normal work of the classifications.

  • Must meet and maintain company physical and security requirements and clearance eligibility when required.

  • Must be able to receive a favorable adjudication of a National Agency Check Investigation.

  • Must possess good communication skills for a service team environment.

  • Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.

  • U.S.Citizenship.
