BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina Community Relations Advisor for Tribal Communities in Remote, North Carolina

Job Description

Blue Cross NC is continuing to expand its tribal strategy to create a strong foundation for meaningful relationships between American Indian communities and our enterprise. Expansion of this work will include the formation of a tribal team dedicated to implementing the tribal strategy and working with American Indian communities across North Carolina.

A relationship-focused role, the Community Relations Advisor for Tribal Communities will connect with local tribal governments of NC’s state-recognized tribes (primarily the Coharie, Haliwa-Saponi, Meherrin, Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, Sappony, and Waccamaw Siouan tribes), urban Indian organizations, partners, and stakeholders to carry out and support the growth of our tribal strategy. This role collaborates as needed across government and commercial segments, works with healthcare, community engagement, and other departments as needed to achieve optimal health for our American Indian/Alaska Native members.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, create, and implement effective programs that foster and improve Blue Cross NC’s relations with NC tribes, partners and key stakeholders.

  • Develop and implement strategic, community-focused initiatives that improve American Indian health and advance Blue Cross NC’s brand and business objectives, member outreach, retention activities, and cultural sensitivity initiatives for health plans.

  • Collaborate with business focused divisions and other divisions as needed to develop and successfully implement projects/programs.

  • Work closely with the County Engagement team to strategize approaches for working faith-based organizations in tribal territories.

  • Build and maintain close working relationships with a vast network of local and tribal leaders, community stakeholders and organizations serving American Indian people.

  • Assist in developing culturally appropriate outreach and marketing materials that are inclusive and representative of Native populations.

  • Form meaningful and reciprocal relationships with tribal leaders and organizations.

  • Provide education on a variety of tribal topics to improve relationship building, marketing strategies and product offerings.

  • Attending, supporting and hosting in-community events as appropriate.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required)

  • 3+ years of experience in related field

  • In lieu of degree, 5+ years of experience in related field

What We Like

  • Knowledge of the state-recognized tribal communities in the NC

  • Experience working effectively and building relationships with tribal leadership and American Indian communities (including excellent written and verbal communication skills)

  • Understanding of the dynamics of tribal government and ability to follow the policies and procedures of tribal governments

  • Experience with community-based health initiatives in American Indian communities

  • Background in community engagement, tribal community engagement, program management, health equity

Salary Range

$61,900.00 - $99,000.00
