Scholastic Business Analyst in Remote, New York

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Operations Business Analyst serves at the intersection of the Operations, Business Analytics, Strategy, Finance, and Technology. The candidate will be part of the Operations Projects team, and will work on critical projects to support Scholastic’s business needs, driving operational efficiencies and customer improvements. Projects aim to improve operations while preserving or improving customer satisfaction, whether in transportation and logistics, warehouse, demand and supply planning, technology implementations or specific challenges faced by our businesses. The ideal candidate for this role requires strong communication skills, the ability to manage project scope and deadlines, willingness to learn new technology and data tools, and a commitment to delivering the highest quality in all projects. Being analytically minded, detail oriented, and passionate about making a difference is a must for this role. Analysts recognize that a collaborative mindset and a “can do” attitude is key in order to learn, contribute and grow at Scholastic. The position will collaborate on projects that drive cost savings up to $5M and collaborate on projects with budgets up to $1M.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and implement continuous improvement projects and initiatives for the following groups – Operations, Manufacturing, Logistics, Demand Planning, Customer Service, Finance and Fulfillment.

  • Collaborate with senior management/stakeholders from Operations, Customer Service, Finance and Fulfillment to gather input, establish problem scope and statements, develop a project plan, and build business case/implementation plans.

  • Prioritize and schedule projects to ensure timelines/deadlines are established and communicated.

  • Assist in facilitation of cross functional teams at project meetings with a aim of enforcing project deadlines, budgets, schedules and meeting goals of the established projects.

  • Develop new processes and re-engineer current processes using lean and other process/quality methodologies like six sigma, develop process flows as needed.

  • Develop value stream maps, customer journey maps and workflow maps as required for Continuous Improvement projects.

  • Develop process and data analytics required for projects and improvement opportunities to develop insights that lead to actionable outcomes.

  • Develop KPI dashboards (as needed) and quality control measures as part of every improvement project for sustained long term process stability.

  • Develop ad hoc data analysis reports as required.

  • Create reports, analysis, or graphs that accurately represent the data to the stakeholders.

  • Develop and document Project plan/Task break down structure and Milestones with clear timelines assign resources as identified.

  • Update project plan/Task break down structure in a timely fashion, follow through and escalate as necessary for successful completion of the projects.

  • Create and deliver presentations to Sr Leadership about project/improvement initiative success and challenges in a timely fashion with quantitative and qualitative reporting to senior staff, managers and other stakeholders.

  • Use Smartsheets and other Project Management tools to assist in meeting deadlines and tracking milestones.

  • Propose new project ideas with data/research to support the need for the proposed project.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)

  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree in business, supply chain & operations, engineering, or other quantitative disciplines.

  • 4+ years of work experience in Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics or related fields.

  • Excellent analytical, logical reasoning and problem solving capabilities.

  • Ability to present and discuss technical, functional and management information in a clear and compelling manner that promotes consensus.

  • Passion for data driven decision making (“In Numbers We Trust” mindset).

  • Strong proficiency in spreadsheet analysis, PowerPoint, Lucid Chart, Smartsheets.

  • Familiarity with google suite products and Microsoft Teams.

  • Experience working with technology and business SMEs to document as-is and to-be processes and data requirements, including creating process maps.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to translate operational improvements into financial impact.

  • Experience presenting to senior leadership.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Travel up to 20%.
