Senior Counsel - Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) will provide counseling, strategic legal advice and leadership to GE Vernova Gas Power.

The Senior EHS Counsel will be an integral member of the Legal Department, reporting directly to Executive EHS and Product Safety Counsel, working closely with the broader business legal team and EHS professionals to support the EHS legal needs of the business, maintain full regulatory compliance and enhance GE Vernova’s reputation for EHS excellence. In this role, you will be responsible for a diverse array of substantive projects and matters with long-term business implications, managing complex issues within your area of expertise, and contributing to the overall business strategy.

Job Description

• What you’ll do

• Provide day-to-day legal advice to all of Gas Power’s global operations on a variety of environmental and workplace safety issues, including compliance counseling on applicable EHS requirements concerning air and water emissions, waste management, chemical management, occupational health and safety, product safety, product stewardship, acquisitions and divestitures, property development, remediation, and real estate;

• Represent the business before regulatory agencies, including enforcement proceedings, administrative hearings and preparation and review of permit applications;

• Provide leadership on EHS aspects of commercial transactions, product development and product safety, and review and negotiate commercial contract terms and conditions with customers, partners, and suppliers;

• Support environmental due diligence and negotiation of EHS contract terms for business acquisitions, divestitures, and property transactions;

• Participate in compliance audits of manufacturing facilities and project/service sites;

• Support legal issues related to remedial liabilities arising from historical operations and acquisitions;

• Manage outside litigation, if necessary, in a cost-effective manner to achieve business objectives;

• Conduct training and provide regulatory updates on EHS legal developments and risks;

• Work closely with other legal functional teams (e.g., compliance, litigation, sourcing) to support related matters and coordinate with GE Vernova to implement best practices and strategic advice.

What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)

For US Applicants:

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school

• At least 7+ additional years of EHS legal experience with a corporation, law firm or governmental agency providing working knowledge of environmental, health and safety laws and regulations

• In-house counsel registration and/or member in good standing with a State Bar in the United States or appropriate qualification under local regulations

Applicants Outside of the US:

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school

• Significant years of EHS legal experience with a corporation, law firm or governmental agency providing working knowledge of environmental, health and safety laws and regulations

• In-house counsel registration and/or member in good standing with a State Bar in the United States or appropriate qualification under local regulations

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must have legal authorization to work in the USA without sponsorship now or in the future if located within the USA

• Remote work considered if within commutable distance of one of the Fixed GE Vernova locations in Atlanta, Schenectady, Greenville or Longmont

• Must be willing to travel as required

Pay Transparency:

The base pay range for this position is $167,100 - 278,500 annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a 15% performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. ​ This posting is expected to close on May 17 , 2024, or thereafter .

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
