Location: San Jose, California or Remote

Salary Range: $90,000 to $112,000

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, education and experience. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. THE ESTIMATING TEAM

Estimating is an essential part of CEI’s sales engine, ensuring that projects are priced properly throughout the bid process. The Estimating group also serves a vital role in CEI’s PM training, teaching estimating skills to future and newly hired project management team members.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Estimator, reporting to the Chief Estimator or a Senior Lead Estimator, manages all estimating activities for assigned projects. Responsibilities include but not limited to providing accurate estimates, understanding project documents and how they are applied to an estimate, and requesting and evaluating material and subcontract pricing. The ideal candidate for this position should have a proven track record and stable work history for estimating of low voltage systems. The candidate must possess in-depth knowledge of electronic estimating, preferably with Accubid/Livecount and Bluebeam Studio. The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to influence decision-making processes.

  • Provide an accurate, detailed estimate as an individual or while working in a team environment on various special systems.

  • Executing systems integration, along with commissioning and testing.

  • Preferred candidates will also possess knowledge and understanding of structured cabling, Audio Visual systems, access control systems, security camera systems, networking, DAS systems, fire alarm systems, ERRCS, Transit systems, Nurse Call, BMS/BAS control systems, and Aviation Systems.

  • Understand both the internal and external client’s pricing needs and requests. Develop the estimate to match those pricing needs.

  • Request material and subcontract pricing based on project requirements with attention to quality assurance that all scope is covered.

  • Understanding of Value Engineering and alternative design concepts

  • Identify missing or incorrect scope and request clarification via clear RFI submission to either the internal or external clients.

  • Review with confidence, the completed estimate with the project team to ensure a complete understanding of the scope has been identified and priced.

  • Understanding of conceptual Budgeting

  • Able to complete bid forms and scope letters as required.

  • Accountable for proper record keeping with in the policies of the company.

  • Ability to learn and be trained in various systems.

Knowledge: A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position.

Job Complexity: Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.

Supervision: Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.

ABOUT YOU

  • Understand contract documents, including drawings, specifications, etc and how they impact the estimate process.

  • Knowledgeable in design build and progressive design build processes.

  • Ability to understand other trade drawings that impact special systems take off.

  • Understanding of general Low Voltage Systems design and engineering concepts.

  • Ability to track a project’s estimate progress from creation to turn over to the project team.

  • Ability to support project teams with change orders and variance reports of new scope documents.

  • Ability to create materials list, scope of work, and installation package for the operations team.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to deliver customer service is paramount both internal and external.

  • Software experience to include but not limited to Microsoft Office, Teams, Blue Beam, and Accubid, along with various other company software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Some college preferred.

Licensure/Certifications: None required.

Experience: 2-3 years of experience in structured cabling and low voltage systems estimating.
