Position Title: Manager, Training Content & Delivery

Salary Range : $76,000 - $98,000

Department : 988 Standards, Training & Practice

Reports to: Senior Director, Training Development & Instructional Design

Location: Remote

Schedule: Full-time, 9am - 5pm Monday - Friday EST

*New hires are typically brought into the organization between the minimum to midpoint of the salary range posted depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.

*This role is endowed/subsidized through June 2025, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.

Position Overview: The Manager of Training Content & Delivery is responsible for developing training content and other educational resources provided to the 988 Lifeline network crisis centers. These trainings and resources help improve crisis counselors’ understanding and skills so they can more effectively support people in crisis or experiencing emotional distress. This position requires experience in hotline crisis counseling as well as training development.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages the development of content for online and face-to-face trainings as well as other educational resources related materials including handouts, manuals, curricula guides, website content, blogs and other resources as needed.

  • Ensure training content and related materials draw on and incorporates feedback from subject matter experts (in-house and external), including Equity & Belonging, QI and other relevant sources.

  • Collaborates with instructional designers to ensure that training content is clear and concise, meets the learning objectives, and engages adult learners.

  • Works closely with LMS staff to ensure training modules, resources, posttests are delivered and launched.

  • Managing descriptions on the LMS are written and updated as needed.

  • Delivers presentations internally and externally as needed.

  • Overview of staff.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to write for diverse needs (e.g., narrative, case studies, online interactive activities, role plays, fact sheets).

  • Capacity to research and synthesize complex and nuanced suicide prevention concepts.

  • Engaging writing style that is easy-to-understand for audiences at varying levels of education and experience .

  • Solid verbal skills to communicate the status, needs and potential delays of assigned tasks.

  • Skilled in G-Suite, MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    Decision Making:

  • Oversees all phases of the content development process (e.g., outlines, drafts, reviews/revisions) for trainings and other related educational resources.

  • Create content for trainings, including but not limited to modules, lessons, scenarios/case studies, examples, activities, quizzes/posttests.

    Scope of Responsibility/Accountability:

  • Develops curricula for crisis counselor training including discussion questions and slide decks.

  • Creates live role plays with criteria for success/scoring as well as feedback.

  • Develops shadowing exercises with guidance on what to evaluate.

  • Expands and maintains an ongoing curriculum map with all available 988 crisis counselor training materials for specific skills and trainings.

    Managing/Direct Work:

  • Leads a collaborative, iterative process in the development of training and educational resources.

  • Solicit input and feedback from colleagues, leadership and experts to ensure content aligns with current needs, best practices, and policies.

  • Rectify differences in opinion and build consensus.

  • Review various training and educational resources from colleagues and provide feedback with sensitivity that maintains relationships, encourages positive discussions, and leads to needed revisions.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal communication.

  • 5+ years of experience working for a crisis counseling hotline.

  • 5+ years of experience developing content for in person and/or online trainings in the mental health field.

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field required.

  • Knowledge of and experience with suicide crisis counseling on a hotline.

  • Online and in person training experience for crisis counseling.

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • Lived experience related to mental health concerns or suicide welcome but not required.

  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone.

  • Ability to remain calm and composed under stress.

  • Ability to respond to telephones and other auditory stimulation.

    Travel Requirements

  • Infrequent travel to conferences or meetings may be required, approximately 2-3% of time per year.
