Summary of Duties:

 

The King County SNAP-Ed Extension Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) nutrition education and policy, systems and environmental (PSE) change interventions with a focus on supporting community-led change. The Extension Coordinator will conduct community needs assessments, adhere to SNAP-Ed guidelines and collaborate with agencies and groups within the community to deliver nutrition education programming and develop PSE interventions in a culturally responsive manner. The Extension Coordinator organizes, conducts, coordinates, monitors, evaluates, and reports on program activities related to PSE strategies, health promotion, and direct education at food banks, housing, and farmers market sites.

 

The Extension Coordinator reports directly to the SNAP-Ed Program Manager, and works closely with other Extension staff, SNAP-Ed staff, community partners, and program participants to ensure that activities meet community needs, honor participants' lived experiences, and are appropriate within FNS guidance for SNAP-Ed programs. The position contributes to local, University, state and national recognition of WSU Extension and the SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education Program as an essential nutrition education resource and contributes to the recognition of WSU as a premier Land-Grant University.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

 

• Related program experience includes Urban or Regional Planning, Environmental Studies, Nutrition, Sustainability, Community Development, public health, nutrition, food science or other social science related field.

 

• Valid Washington State Food and Beverage Worker Permit.

 

• Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with https://policies.wsu.edu/prf/index/manuals/safety-policies-procedures-manual/sppm-7-10/ and departmental driving standards.

 

• While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting requirements described in https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.30.020 and https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.29.090).

 

• Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.

 

• Employment is contingent upon passing an annual background screening.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience working with diverse communities using a strengths-based approach, showing sensitivity to those who experience poverty, racism, marginalization, and trauma.

 

• Understanding of the power of food and its links to supporting the well-being of community members.
