CareFirst AWS Cloud Platform Engineer Principle (Hybrid) in Reston, Virginia

Resp & Qualifications

PURPOSE:

Drives enterprise optimization by introducing capabilities (inclusive of all functions) for their domain of responsibility utilizing in-depth knowledge and expert skills to advance domain strategies. Translates business needs for the domain into architectural solutions that meet performance, reliability and security expectations. Applies enterprise roadmaps, principles, standards, and practices to drive their domain strategies and execution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads preparation of domain architecture viewpoints and models depicting current, target, and interim states. Use current state viewpoints to identify and analyze pain points and opportunities (PPOs). Lead advanced modeling and analysis to meet the strategic needs of the organization with respect to system, information, functional/non-functional needs, performance and security/regulatory requirements. Create and utilize architecture patterns and ensure alignment with IT strategies and reference architectures. Ensure target state alignment and integration across architecture domains. Ensure upstream alignment / traceability to business needs via business architecture and downstream alignment / traceability with solution building blocks. Leads the extension / enhancement of domain architecture strategies, standards, and guidelines. Identify and support development of reusable domain patterns.

  • Leads design, engineering and implementation of assets for internal use in solutions to improve solution quality; collaborate through implementation phase. Leads peer reviews and represent the architecture domain in briefings to the Architecture Review Board. Oversees publishing and maintenance of viewpoints / work products in the architecture repository, ensuring they are organized, accurate, and accessible. Disposition stakeholder comments / feedback received via project and non-project channels. Ensures that regulatory and compliance issues are addressed in solutions.

  • Leads collaboration with other teams (business and technical), key stakeholders, and partners to understand needs to maximize architecture impact and address technical limitations. Leads the evaluation/selection of a solution / product design that aligns with IT / Domain strategies, standards, and guidelines.

  • Leads research emerging domain trends to determine their relevancy and fit for the organization.Leads vendor evaluations and selection process broadly; leads vendor evaluation and selection for domain-specific tooling. Represent the architecture domain in the drafting of RFIs/RFPs and the evaluation / scoring of vendor proposals.

  • Leads the development / enhancement of architecture domain methods and tools. Ensure the alignment / integration of domain architecture processes / deliverables with those of other architecture domains and SDLC disciplines. Leads development of domain related communications / education materiel for use with stakeholders and architecture / SDLC partners.

  • Leads domain assessments for most complex new / proposed projects for architecture impacts in support of annual planning, resource estimation, and alignment with IT strategy and enterprise architecture. Provide input to project, product, and enterprise technology roadmaps. Provide regular reporting on progress, issues, and opportunities related to architecture domain.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • AWS Certifications

  • CKA (certified Kubernetes Administrator)

  • Certified System Architect Upon Hire Preferred

Experience: 10 years' Experience in Architecture Domain. 10+ years of overall experience in IT including hands-on Development and Systems engineering background. Minimum of 8-10 years of IT experience of which at least 5 years must be in AWS Cloud Automation and Administration. Must be well versed in writing Terraform plans, Ansible playbooks, and Python code. 3-5 years of experience in a Site Reliability Engineering role. Experience with Datacenter migration and Enterprise Cloud transformation efforts. Experience with SRE principles and transformation. 3+ years of experience with implementation of Containerization (Kubernetes), Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, or Google, etc.), DevOps tool chain (Ansible, Jenkins, Artifactory, bitbucket, etc.), and technical patterns (IaC, Automated Provisioning/Release, CI/CD, etc.). Solid understanding of Software coding techniques and experience with full spectrum of Software engineering (Build, Integration, Test, Releasing and Deployment) leveraging Python. Experience in Developing and/or challenging engineering solutions/practices and collaborating with peers within and outside of immediate team, including customers (Dev, Architects, Engineers)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree

  • Minimum of 8 -10years of IT experience of which at least 5 years must be in AWS Cloud Automation and Administration.

  • Previous Linux System administration is a Plus.

  • Must have strong hands-on knowledge of AWS platform and services but not limited to VPC, Subnets, NACLs, Security Groups, EC2, S3, IAM, ELBs, Lambdas, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, EKS etc.

  • Must Have Hands on current Implementation and Production level experience AWS Cloud.

  • Hands on experience with Automation and Infrastructure Provisioning is a must Our goal is to only provision infrastructure with code.

  • Must be well versed in writing Terraform plans, Ansible playbooks, and Python code.

  • Current and actual Production level experience with Terraform and Ansible is Required.

  • Other experience with different automation tools and languages instead of Python to code infrastructure for automation is acceptable.

  • Must have hands on experience in writing Lambda functions preferably in Python (Boto3).

  • Must be well versed in writing Linux Bash scripts.

  • Experience with AWS CLI is desired.

  • Minimum of One AWS certification is required.

  • Hands-on experience with Containers, Amazon EKS, or RedHat OpenShift is a big plus.

  • A great understanding of various DevOps toolchains, including Git/repo, Crucible, Jenkins etc.

  • Solid understanding and experience with a CI/CD tool chain.

  • Understanding of Cloud Native Architecture

  • Linux, Shell scripting, and general admin skills

  • Network, Security, Plugins, & Storage Skills

  • AWS skills: EC2, S3, EBS, EFS, IAM, VPC, Lambda etc.

  • Cloud and DevOps certifications, e.g., AWS or Azure Solutions Architect and CKA

Strong skills are desired in each of the following areas:

  • Development : Experience programming with one or more languages: Python, Java, Groovy, Go, etc.

  • IAC Tools for Platform Automation : Strong skills and experience in at least one: Ansible, and Terraform

  • Containers : Docker or other OCI-certified containers- is a Plus

  • Container Orchestration Platform : Experience with Kubernetes, AWS EKS, Red Hat OpenShift, Platform 9

  • CNI Plugins : Calico, Flannel, Weave Net etc.

  • Service Mesh : Istio, AWS App Mesh, OpenShift Service Mesh etc.

  • Container Security Tools : Twistlock, Sysdig, Aqua etc.

  • Platform Monitoring, Observability, & Performance Tools : Nginx, New Relic, AppDynamics, Data Dog, Thanos, Jaeger, LogDNA, etc. DevOps Tools: Git/Repo, Crucible, Bitbucket, Jira, Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins, Circleci, Bamboo, Maven, Artifactory, Nexus etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Ability to coach, delegate, and develop architects and engineers.

  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to develop high quality solutions.

  • Ability to managing cross-domain architecture solutions and issues.

  • Expertise with domain related architecture frameworks, methods and tools.

  • Effective organizational, interpersonal/relationship management, analytical, communications (written and verbal) and collaboration.

  • Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $268,125
