TAI Controls Engineer in Richardson, Texas

Looking for variety and technical challenges? We're searching for a skilled Controls Engineer to play a critical role in the wide range of projects across industrial sectors such as chemical, power, food/beverage, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Projects variety examples:

  • System upgrades to provide efficient and effective process for control of existing and new devices/instruments including new safety detection devices to provide automatic activation of the RAD system without operator intervention.

  • Programming, start-up and commissioning support and detailed engineering and development of construction documents for the Tank Truck Area Pump Replacement project

  • Automation of a Bottling Tank Room with the ability to communicate with tanks located in blending areas. This included wiring additional transfer pumps into the PLCs and automating existing valves.

Here's a taste of what you'll be doing:

  • Planning, organizing, and performing detailed electrical and controls design and support management of engineering activities.

  • Responsible for process design of multiple projects of varying complexity.

  • Research applicable industry standards, prepare engineering studies, analysis of systems, preliminary and detailed engineering designs.

  • Develop engineering specifications and project cost estimates.

  • Review work of project design team, check progress of work and alert managers to change of scope and additional services.

  • Coordinate most aspects of project document completion.

  • Direct CAD designers for the preparation of construction drawings.

  • Possess ability to interpret applicable codes.

  • Independently work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to codes is required.

  • Coordinate project design with other engineering disciplines.

You'll be a perfect fit if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related engineering degree.

  • A minimum of four years of applicable consulting or engineering experience.

  • Experienced with specifying, designing, programming and maintaining automation control systems for industrial, power, oil & gas, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food & beverage facilities with significant expertise in at least one of the core industries served by TAI.

  • Experienced with specifying both digital and analog instrumentation (Level, Flow, Pressure, Temperature, Analytical - pH, LEL, O2, CO, CO2, etc.) and integrate to construction and panel drawing sets.

  • Experienced with specifying Electrical Component and Field Devices (combination starters, VFD’s, MCC’s, pushbuttons/selector switches, heat trace, etc.)

  • Experienced with designing, reviewing and approving Electrical Construction Drawing sets including but not limited to instrument location plan, conduit block and network architecture drawings

  • Experienced with designing, reviewing and approving PLC control panel and motor control panel drawings

  • Experienced with specification and programming of controls systems including Rockwell family of processors and HMI’s, ability to program new applications and modify existing applications with ample annotation for future reference.

  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, Modbus, Profibus and other industrial communication protocols

  • Experienced with programming Wonderware, IFix, Maple, Delta V, Siemens, Omron, Modicon, Mitsubishi and Koyo is a plus

  • Experienced with programming SCADA and SQL is a plus

  • Working knowledge of and ability to specify control systems for use in hazardous area locations as identified by NFPA 70

  • Working knowledge of ISA standards and ability to interpret and contribute to development of P&ID

  • Working knowledge of and ability to design robust safety circuits and specify components of varying industry requirements

  • Working knowledge of NFPA 79
