This is a Driver position with a company in Meridian, Mississippi
Summary: Pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers and support the sales process.
Duties & Responsibilities: Drive tractor-trailer combinations, including double trucks (and triples, if applicable) and/or straight trucks. Perform daily pre-departure and safety inspections on equipment. Hooking/unhooking trailers and conversion carts to/from a tractor and/or trailer. Perform cargo handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including but not limited to: forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck. Secure cargo inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies, including but not limited to: pallets, straps, and ropes. Recover/repair damaged cargo if necessary. Verify and complete required documentation and reports. Comply with hazardous materials regulations and procedures. Collect cash or checks for transportation costs, as needed, and keep required documentation. Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch as needed, including but not limited to: delays, arrivals, and equipment issues. Communicate with customers to determine pickup or delivery needs and solicit additional business. Demonstrate internal and external customer service. Solicit additional business from customers and provide sales leads for potential new opportunities. May be required to chain the vehicle's tires. May be required to perform the duties of a truck driver or dock employee when operationally necessary. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures. Perform other duties as required.
Requirements and Qualifications[]{#Hlk142289191}[]{#Hlk142304825}: Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple endorsements, hazardous materials, and tank.* CDL restriction allowed for automatic transmission. Must have one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years or have successfully completed the FedEx Cargo Driver Development Course. Must have an Acceptable Motor Vehicle (MVR) record according to hiring standard. Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under Section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier Regulations (FMC) Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs) (i.e., Triple Trailers, Rocky Mountain Double Trailers, and Turnpike Double Trailers) operate in the states of AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, and UT. LCV drivers in these states must meet the minimum qualification and certification standards for long combined vehicles (LCVs). Ability to count and perform basic mathematical calculations, with or without a calculator. Basic written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.) Ability to lift/transport goods weighing up to 100 pounds multiple times per week. Ability to sit for long periods of time, bend over, twist, squat, get in and out of a truck. Ability to follow instructions and complete required training. Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
