Overview
The Campus Development Division delivers the PNNL campus strategy to provide laboratory facilities and infrastructure aligned with our cutting-edge science and technology research mission. The division provides the planning, architecture, engineering, and design services critical to delivering unique and modern research facilities. We also centrally manage laboratory and office space and relocations to optimize usage across our campuses. Campus Development is leading a 10-year recapitalization of PNNL’s campus exceeding $1.2 billion. We rely on the partnerships between research and operations to identify, fund and design the most impactful campus projects and work closely with our project management team to deliver. The division prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) fostering multi-disciplinary teams to plan, design, engineer, and manage space. Our team delivers facility solutions that maximize safety, functionality, reliability, and sustainability.
Responsibilities
Responsible for providing discipline specific engineering expertise including engineering studies, preliminary, conceptual and detailed design, project management, estimating, calculations, troubleshooting, preparation of contract documents including drawings and specifications, construction administration, and field inspections for all PNNL facilities.
Your Role:
Guide multidisciplinary project teams on a variety of projects, from simple to highly complex. Your leadership will be key in fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
Play a pivotal role in mentoring early-career engineers and designers. Your expertise will help shape their professional development, ensuring a bright future for our engineering community.
Leverage your electrical engineering expertise to drive the design and execution of groundbreaking facilities that support our mission-critical research.
Support operations, maintenance, and commissioning of PNNL Facilities.
What You Bring:
Professional Engineer (PE) license (does not need to be Washington State).
A passion for mentoring and training, backed by excellent communication skills.
Experience in leading technically complex projects, with a skill in coordinating and managing activities of diverse teams.
Experience and desire to improve engineering processes, standards, templates and tools.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant work experience -OR-
MS/MA or higher and 5+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
A strong foundation in building electrical engineering with 10 years’ experience in an architecture and engineering firm, complemented by a leadership spirit.
Leadership experience managing technically complex design projects coordinating the efforts of clients, other disciplines, and external consultants.
Experienced collaborator on contract procurement processes, including project types such as small works and major construction, contract delivery methods such as design/bid/build, and design/build.
Track record of preparing and managing design engineering budgets, schedules, and staff resources.
Expertise in NFPA 70, 70E and 72.
Experience in lighting design and lighting controls.
LEED or equivalent DOE High Performance Sustainable Building Standard experience.
Experience with institutional research laboratory layout and design.
Experience with direct digital Facility Management Control System design (HVAC system control).
Experience providing direction to junior staff, designers, and drafters.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
AutoCAD or REVIT design and drafting skills, MS Office Software skills.

In accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, new employees are required to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.

Starting pay is calculated from the minimum of the pay range and actual placement in the range is determined based on an individual’s relevant job-related skills, qualifications, and experience.
