POSITION PURPOSE: General Manager for this position is self-motivated; result-driven employee who is responsible for managing the business activities and operations of Gas Fired Cogen and Utilities plant located in Richmond Va., including five department managers and a large plant employee staff.

The site supplies utilities to a large manufacturing site and the General Manager will be the primary interface with client representatives on a day-to-day basis. The high-profile client manufacturer's products that are utilized on a global market. To ensure success of the client, and Veolia, plant reliability, customer service skills and attention to detail are paramount.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute and adhere to an existing O&M and Utility Services Agreement between the Client and the company.

  • Prepares annual operating budgets for 5 Profit Centers and assess monthly variance reports and forecasts.

  • Enforce all environmental, health, safety, and operational procedures and training in accordance with Veolia policies.

  • Provide a safe and compliant work environment for all employees.

  • Oversee all federal, state, and local compliance activities and compliant with all applicable regulations.

  • Proactively communicate with staff to share forecasts, plans, changes within site or company and any other resources and information.

  • Identify opportunities to grow or improve the business and lower costs for both the site and the client.

  • Lead, coach, support and develop personnel and department teams.

  • Develop team goals and individual goals, which are aligned with and in support of region, branch, and Veolia.

  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Physical requirements include sitting, standing and walking. Occasional periods of lifting and climbing.

  • Position requires extended working hours with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by work load and plant conditions. General Manager needs to be available to plant staff and client when required.

  • Will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. Includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

  • Bachelors of Science degree or equivalent work experience required.

  • At least 10 years business experience.

  • 10 yrs experience with P&L responsibility in a service industry.

  • At least 5 years managing, coaching and developing personnel.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge in the following areas: Knowledge of Process, Operations Management, QA/Q procedures, DOT, EPA, TSCA, and OSHA required.

  • Minimum of ten years of experience in management of utility systems, showing progressive steps of increased responsibility.

  • Knowledge of budget preparation and cost control and have the ability to forecast budget, staffing and equipment needs.

  • Demonstrated effective communication, presentation and interpersonal skills in order to interface with and motivate all levels of personnel and clients.

Required Certification / Licenses / Training

  • A valid driver's license.
