Internal Firm Tax Director

Our Internal Firm Tax team is looking for a Tax Director who will lead and manage comprehensive tax strategies and compliance processes for both the firm and its partners. The Internal Firm Tax Director will have the opportunity to work onsite/hybrid from any of our office locations or remotely from within the United States.

As an Internal Firm Tax Director at Cherry Bekaert, your role is pivotal in ensuring that all tax-related matters are accurate, compliant, and optimized for minimizing tax liabilities. You will serve as a strategic advisor, utilizing your extensive expertise in tax laws, regulations, and financial analysis to support the financial success of the firm and its 170+ partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance Oversight

  • Oversee the preparation and review of complex federal and multi-state pass-through entity returns for the firm, ensuring compliance with all regulations.

  • Manage the preparation and review of federal and multi-state individual income returns for firm partners, including handling complex tax scenarios.

  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of tax estimates, extensions, projections, and final returns.

  • Address and resolve tax notices and inquiries from federal and state tax authorities efficiently.

Advanced Tax Planning and Analysis

  • Lead research on complex and evolving tax issues, utilizing advanced tools and resources.

  • Analyze the impact of tax law changes on the firm and its partners, providing strategic recommendations.

  • Research and advise on technical issues for state returns, including nexus, apportionment, and various state tax types.

  • Develop and present analytical reports and strategic tax insights to senior management.

  • Familiarity with partnership M&A activity.

Strategic Leadership and Team Management

  • Mentor and develop a high-performing team of 12 tax professionals.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, integrity, and excellence within the internal firm tax department.

Partner and Firm Communication

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for tax-related matters, maintaining effective communication with partners, managers, and external agencies.

  • Prepare and manage responses to federal and state tax notices, ensuring all concerns are addressed promptly.

  • Provide strategic tax advice and insights to partners and the firm, promoting informed decision-making.

What you bring to the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • CPA certification is required.

  • Extensive experience in tax preparation and compliance, including individual, partnership, and state taxation.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in managing complex projects and leading teams.

  • Deep knowledge of tax laws, codes, and regulations, with proficiency in tax software and financial analysis tools.

  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to work in dynamic environments.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Cherry Bekaert cares about our people. We offer competitive compensation packages based on performance that recognize the value our people bring to our clients and our Firm. The salary range for this position is $131,670 to $275,000. Individual salaries within this range are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education, knowledge, skills, and geographic location.
