Manager, Accounts Payable - Compliance

ABOUT THIS JOB

The Accounts Payable Manager supervises and coordinates accounts payable activities, researching & processing of payments, adherence to various federal, state & local laws as well as company policies & SOX Controls, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an Accounts Payable Manager, you will:

• Oversee procure to payactivities while ensuring accounting accuracy, completeness, adherence to SOX Controls; manage resources appropriately to balance workload and ensure key performance metrics are met

• Drive team performance by managing the on-boarding & training process, setting clear expectations, and measuring results; participate in the performance management process, including performance reviews, team & individual development

• Identifytraining, education, and upskilling needs within the team; deploy as needed to ensure operational targets are maintained as well as accounting policies and procedures are followed appropriately       

• Collaborate with the team and business partners to identify, design, and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and effectiveness      

• Oversee, support, and perform accounting activities, including month end close journal entries, account reconciliations and balance sheet fluctuation explanations; manage the monthly close process

• Analyze department metrics, including staff productivity and key performance metrics; recommend solutions to drive execution or improve performance    

• Lead and participate as a subject matter expert for accounts payable in projects that span multiple departments and/or the company as new initiatives are deployed to meet business goals

• Assist the Senior Manager and/or Director with staff communications, issue resolution, goal setting, and maintainingfiduciary duties and accounting standards

• Ability to travel asneeded

• Must be able to sit onsite, as requested, at CarMax’s Home Office in Richmond, Virginia

Internal Candidates: Successful completion of Entry MAP or MDP required

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance preferred, or equivalent experience required

• 5+ years of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Internal Controls, Accounting Compliance, and/or a multi-state payroll environment, or equivalent experience required

• 2+ years of experience leading teams to achieve common goals, including managing the work of direct and/or indirect reportshighly preferred

• Strong accounting skills including general knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

• Accredited Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable Manager Certification preferred

• Project management experience preferred

• Experience and knowledge in Cloud-based ERP solutions, Workday, robotics, OCR technologies, and various automations desirable

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook) required
