Job Summary

Dominion Resource’s seeks candidates for a Software Systems Engineer position located in Richmond, Virginia. Position responsibilities include supporting a SCADA EMS system and Synchrophasor System used to operate and monitor the Electric Transmission electrical power system and other assets. A broad knowledge and/or willingness to learn a variety of skills from configuration, programming, automation, business operations etc. will be required. It is essential the successful applicant be a highly motivated self-starter that can and will be responsible for their work with minimal direction and supervision. Works independently and as part of the team, this role works with senior engineers to formulates and define specifications for complex software programming applications and to modify/maintain complex existing code.

Responsibilities include:

• Working with an application dealing with the overall operating system and complex in operation and activities.

• Candidate is responsible for working with an individual business unit on multi-project assignments.

• Support SCADA EMS system across Dominion’s electrical system.

• Support Synchrophasor System across Dominion’s electrical system.

• Connect new technologies to existing SCADA EMS system and Synchrophasor system with a variety of protocols

• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation

• Plan, design, implement, enhance and maintain complex system

• Monitor and tune performance of SCADA EMS system and Synchrophasor System.

There are two positions available that will be filled at either the Mid-level or Senior level, commensurate with the selected candidates' skills and abilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

SCADA & Synchrophasor Systems Engineer: 2-3+ years directly related experience.

Senior SCADA & Synchrophasor Systems Engineer: 5+ years directly related experience.

• Operating systems knowledge and experience desired: Experience in Windows and Linux Operating Systems

• C++ or similar object-oriented programming languages

• Proficient in one or more of the following scripting languages (Perl, Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, Linux shell)

• Basic knowledge of electrical operations

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Working Conditions

Office Work Environment 76 -100%

Travel Up to 25%

Other Working Conditions

• Deadline oriented, 50% - 75%.

• Fast-paced environment, 50% - 75%.

• Will be required to work on call, rotating shifts, overtime, weekends and holidays.

• Requires working on uneven or slippery surfaces.

• Out-of-town work and overnight stays will be required in some departments.
