Virginia Commonwealth University Pre-Certified Police Officer in Tappahannock, Virginia

VCU Police has an exciting opportunity for Pre-Certified Police Officers to join our team! Summary: This will be a fixed duty post at VCU Health Tappahannock Hospital at 618 Hospital Rd, Tappahannock, VA 22560. This position will provide building and grounds patrol on foot and by vehicle, ensuring the safety and security of staff, patients, and visitors, and interpret and institute the VCU Police mission statement. This position will successfully handle assignments issued by the sergeant, lieutenant, and/or captain. This position will take and maintain custody of patients under emergency custody and/or temporary detention orders. This position will also actively identify problems or areas of concern and establish action planning to solve issues as well as work with VCUH staff and contract employee partners to ensure a safe and secure environment at the facility.We are offering up to a $10,000 sign-on bonus. Summary Minimum Qualifications

  • Certification as a Virginia Law Enforcement Officer and ability to maintain DCJS certification.

``` - Must have a Virginia motor vehicle drivers license and a clear driving record.

``` - Must have never been convicted of a felony, crimes involving moral turpitude, or domestic violence.

``` - Must provide birth certificate and be able to pass a polygraph, drug test, and physical examination by a licensed physician.

``` - Needs excellent ability to communicate and work effectively at all levels within and outside the hospital.

``` - Demonstrated ability to problem solve and work collaboratively with other employees. Ability to fit into a team environment as characterized by shared accountabilities.

``` - Emphasis on providing the highest levels of responsiveness and customer service to both internal and external customers.

``` - Ability to interact physically and psychologically with a diverse population in stressful environments.

``` - Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty and staff environment or committed to do so as a staff member of VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelors degree in criminal justice or related field or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Excellent working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances, rules and regulations of VCU
