Job/Position DescriptionThe Licensed Vocational Nurse will coordinate services to perform immunization and surveillance duties. Performs nursing tasks and public health work including administering vaccines and ensuring proper storage and handling of vaccines. Collects data for surveillance investigations and submit reports for vaccine preventable diseases. Completes documentation and data entry. Conducts in-services and orientations on an as needed basis.Essential Job Functions(45%) CLIENT SERVICES:Provides public health nursing services to clients with a range of health needs in Bee County and surrounding counties. Will coordinate immunization clinics for under immunized people in the underserved communities. Follows requirements for eligibility, vaccine administration, documentation, and confidentiality. Administers vaccines and medications.(15%) CONSUMER INFORMATION:Coordinates and travels to participate in activities to educate and motivate the public in English and Spanish about the importance and safety of immunizations. Distributes and ensures patient understanding of the Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) which informs parents and recipients about the risks and benefits of vaccines.(10%) VACCINE MANAGEMENT:Responsible for ensuring the proper handling and storage of vaccine. Maintains vaccine inventory and reports accurate documentation on TWICES.(10%) SURVEILLANCE:Investigates and documents suspected Vaccine Preventable Disease cases in the community. Travels to follow-up on reports of serious adverse events following immunizations. Assists with Perinatal Hepatitis B case management throughout region 11.(5%) IMMUNIZATION REGISTRY:Update information in the system to ensure at least 95% of children under 6 years of age are in the registry. Promotes IMMTRAC2 among parents and providers.(5%) OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:Actively participate and/or serve in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. May require an alternate shift pattern or assignment change.Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certificationsand#149; Licensed to practice as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texasand#149; Current BLS/CPR Certification.and#149; Class C Texas driverand#146;s license or equivalent license from another state.Must put certification number on State of Texas application.Knowledge Skills AbilitiesKnowledge of:and#149; Texas State Board of Nursing regulations and disease preventionand#149; Clinic/office operationsand#149; Vaccines, side effects, adverse reactions and techniques of administering medicationsSkill in:and#149; Data entry using Microsoft computer programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint)Ability to:and#149; Demonstrate independent judgment in clinical situations and correctly interpret findingsand#149; Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA Rules and Regulationsand#149; Effectively communicate with community partnersInitial Screening CriteriaApplicants must clearly state how they meet each of the required initial screening criteria below.1.
