Siemens Energy Power Transformer Tank & External Design Engineer in Roanoke, Virginia

The facility is planned to be built by early 2026 for production commencement. Consequently, the first part of the journey in this role in our Company will involve coordinating the construction, and the implementation of new processes, as well as participating with the development of a high-performance team and coordinating all aspects of the factory setup to prepare for production. In the interim, there may be international travel for training at other Siemens-Energy facilities.

This role is for individual contributor, responsible for preparing mechanical design of Tanks & Externals for Power transformers as well as for achieving design innovations and the optimization of the end products in compliance to Siemens Energy design rules, quality standards, cost position and time schedule. Candidate will be responsible for Mechanical Design for order execution (detailed design) as well as for customer documents/drawings of Tanks & Externals for Power Transformers at Siemens Energy Transformers Factory at Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.

Your Tasks & Responsibilities are as below:

  • Performmechanical design, development and analysis of the tank & components likestiffeners, cover and external components like coolers, conservator, pipe work,turrets, external conduit cabling etc. Prepare master layout in collaborationwith electrical, leads and clamping designers.

  • PrepareTechnical Specifications & order tanking components like fans, pumps,radiators, valves, accessories, hardware etc.

  • Learntransformer design rules and use of transformer design calculation tools relatedto tank and other structural parts

  • Collaborateon R&D projects for further product improvements.

  • Performmechanical calculations like stiffener, lifting, centre of gravity, oil &weights etc. and sizing/selecting of accessorieslike MOG, fan, pumps, terminals, cable routing, breather, valves, bellowsetc.

  • Performadvanced calculations like structural, seismic (eg. using ANSYS, CREO simulate)

· Use 2D and 3D CAD software to model designs and individual parts to support the generation of engineering drawings and prepare bills of material. Understand customer specifications and project requirements and prepare customer documentation like general outline, foundation, shipping/transport, valve schedule, etc.

Requirement for thisrole:

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering

· 6+ years working experience as a Tank design engineer for medium or large Power Transformers

· Strong conceptual knowledge and working experience in structural steel parts.

· Familiar with the American & international standards (eg. IEEE, ANSI, IEC) related to transformer tanks, tank components, and materials.

· User of 3D CAD software (eg. CREO/PROe/Inventor), PDM Link or Teamcentre, 2D CAD (eg. AUTOCAD) and software tools to create Bill of materials eg. SAP

· Detailed knowledge of materials and components related to tank and externals

Key Skills:

· Excellent written and verbal communication in English is necessary.

· Self-motivated to produce high quality results within the time allocated, with limited supervision

· Effective co-ordination with manufacturing, suppliers, and customer

  • Experience with SAPis an added advantage
