International Electrical Engineer High Voltage Battery - Electrical Assembly in Rochester Hills, Michigan

Position Overview

International Corporation, a leading North American truck manufacturer with great products, a strong market position and best-in-class distribution network, has an exciting new opportunity for an Electrical Engineer High Voltage Battery - Electrical Assembly to join our EV Battery team. This is currently a hybrid position working 3 days in office and 2 days work from home a week at Rochester Hills, MI; Elmendorf, near San Antonio, TX; or Lisle, IL. (International reserves the right to update the current hybrid working status at any time)

The Electrical Engineer High Voltage Battery - Electrical Assembly will be responsible for the electrical and electronic aspects of the HV battery, or Rechargeable Energy Storage Systems (RESS). This includes electrical interfaces, electrical layout (cabling and PCBs), and assembly of internal electrical components. The work will be a collaborative effort with our TRATON partners.

Responsibilities

  • Working on interface concepts and designs for both internal and external electrical interfaces, including the battery junction box

  • Drafting and testing assembly sequences/processes of electrical components, wiring, and connections

  • Engaging in process improvements to decrease cycle-times, reduce errors, and increase output quality

  • Drafting, calibrating, and validating interim and End-of-Line tests of the RESS electrical system. Implementing tests in the manufacturing environment.

  • Optimization of RESS electrics and layout for ease of assembly, serviceability, and minimal mass

  • Perform ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) assessments on RESS circuits for current and power capability, system voltage, heat rejection, and electro-magnetic immunity

  • Performing design and assembly stack-up analyses

  • Performing electrical stack-up analysis

  • Collaborating on DFMEA and PFMEA on the RESS electricals

  • Providing input to electrical CAE modeling and simulations; assessing results

  • Providing input on RESS DVP&Rs; assessing results

  • Leading or assisting in root-cause analysis (8D) of electrical design and/or process deviations. Suggest/implement ICAs and PCAs

  • Assisting in production startup of an RESS

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology

  • At least 5 years of experience in product design/development

OR

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology

  • At least 3 years of experience in product design/development

OR

  • PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills

  • 4+ year Electro/Mechanical or relevant Engineering degree from an accredited college or university

  • Must be able to collaborate and work well in teams, including across brands and time-zones

  • Working knowledge of requirements around assembly, manufacturing, and serviceability

  • Working knowledge of EMC

  • Must be able to read electrical schematics and be familiar with high and low voltage system architectures

  • Familiarity of electrical design and layout best practices (PCBs, HV wiring, LV wiring, connectors)

  • Experience with electrical testing of systems

  • Experience working on HV lithium-ion batteries

  • Familiar with design-for-serviceability concepts

  • DFSS green or black-belt certification preferred

  • Ability and flexibility to travel for up to 2 weeks at a time, multiple times per year, domestically and internationally

  • Ability and flexibility to travel internationally for approximately one to two months, preferred
