Responsibilities

The CFR Associate Director (AD) gathers information/intelligence about prospective benefactors, cultivates and develops mutually beneficial relationships which may lead to philanthropy, and pursues and procures gifts/grants that align with Mayo research and clinical priorities. The AD manages a portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects with focus on identifying, prioritizing, qualifying, cultivating, closing, and stewarding commitments targeted at $500,000 and above. In addition, the AD develops and cultivates relationships with key internal stakeholders, including clinicians and researchers, research administration, clinical administration, as well as collaborates with individual development officers and CFR colleagues to keep the team apprised of relevant developments. The AD requests leadership assistance when appropriate, assists in proposal development, works on committees as needed, maintains accurate and current CRM information about potential benefactors, and performs other duties as assigned. Development professionals at Mayo Clinic must adhere to the Donor Bill of Rights and ethical standards set forth for the department and institution.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required. Masters preferred. Must have at least 5 years of related experience in fundraising or philanthropy. Experience in healthcare, academic medicine, higher education or research is a plus. Requires knowledge of principles and methods of fundraising and research. The incumbent must be able to work in a complex environment with multi-dimensional points of view and priorities, possessing organizational agility, political savviness and perseverance and be comfortable with ambiguity. The incumbent must be able to work effectively in a consensus-style operation that expects and promotes teamwork. He or she must have the ability to inspire trust and confidence and communicate effectively; must be able to network and build relationships and to lead the creation of compelling proposals for funding purposes. The incumbent must be able to work under the pressure of deadlines with minimal supervision; take the lead on projects and take initiative when needed, as well as be organized and able to balance multiple relationships and priorities. The incumbent must maintain a high degree of professionalism; confidentiality is essential. Finally, he or she must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suites, other information technology and management of database systems.
