Description

The University of Rochester seeks outstanding senior and mid-career candidates for an open-rank faculty position in areas related to augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). Relevant areas of research range from optics, materials science, acoustics, data science/AI to the understanding of human perception and cognition, with emphasis on core technology, basic research and/or novel applications of AR/VR. This hire will be a key piece of a broader effort at the University of Rochester, with its world-class research in these component disciplines, to strengthen our position as an international leader in AR/VR. The faculty appointment will be in either the School of Arts and Sciences or the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The primary home department will depend on the candidate's main research area, with additional appointments in related disciplines as appropriate.

Candidates will be expected to build on the University's tradition of excellence in collaborative research and to lead new initiatives with broad relevance to AR/VR and related research areas. The successful candidate will be immersed in an exceptionally rich environment for basic science collaborations, technology development, industry interactions, as well as applications in education, workforce, and medicine. Tenure upon initial appointment for qualified candidates will be granted, contingent on favorable review of the candidate's dossier by the department, the dean, and the Provost. Salary, associate professor: $120,000 – $140,000 (9 month salary)

Salary, full professor: $140,000 – $200,000 (9 month salary)

The referenced pay range represents the full base range of pay for this job. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Candidates should have a Ph.D., an outstanding record of research, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring.
