Description

Job Title: Grants Accountant

Job Summary:

The Grants Accountant is responsible for managing all aspects of grants vouchering, including the timely and accurate processing of payments, maintaining compliance with funding requirements, and ensuring proper financial reporting. This role involves close collaboration with program managers and finance staff to ensure that grant funds are properly allocated and expended in accordance with grant agreements and regulations.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Strategy

  • Provide support to the CFO and Assistant Controller regarding any strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.

  • Assist with preparation of materials for board, audit and finance committees.

    Financial and Operational Management:

  • Process and manage all grant payments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

  • Maintain detailed records of all grant-related financial transactions.

  • Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations related to grants.

  • Ensure that all expenditures are in compliance with grant agreements and funding requirements.

  • Assist in preparing financial reports for grantors and internal stakeholders.

  • Coordinate with program managers to ensure proper allocation of grant funds.

  • Assist in the preparation of cash flow forecasts related to grants.

  • Provide data for receivables aging analysis and assist in the collection of outstanding receivables related to grants.

  • Support year-end financial statement preparation and other audit activities.

    Compliance:

  • Ensure all grant expenditures comply with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of grant compliance requirements.

  • Assist in preparing information for external auditors and program funding audits.

  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures related to grants.

  • Participate in the implementation of systems and processes to ensure compliance with funding requirements.

  • Assist in preparing information for external auditors for the annual audit.

  • Assist in preparing materials for program funding audits when they occur.

    Education & Qualification Requirements:

  • BS in Accounting or related field.

  • 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with a focus on grants management preferred.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office products. Oracle Netsuite experience desired.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience in a not-for-profit environment preferred.

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and grant compliance requirements.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking and standing in and around the office.

  • Ability to sit, talk, and hear is required.

  • Occasionally lift loads of 20 pounds without assistance.

  • Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

    Working Conditions:

  • Majority of duties are performed indoors.

  • Occasional exposure to various environmental conditions.
