University of Rochester Lab Specialist I in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Provides direct research and teaching support for dry laboratory.

Typical Duties:

  • Responsibilities include most or all of the following, as well as other related duties:

  • Works independently with only occasional suggestions in modifying, varying or adapting standard laboratory procedures to meet special needs of research projects.

  • Performs analyses and scientific data reductions by using standard methods and develops modifications of standard methods to meet special situations.

  • Searches literature for reference to technical problems involved in research projects, sometimes including literature in foreign languages; writes procedures; prepares charts, graphs and tables; and assists in the preparation of materials for publication.

  • Operates laboratory and experimental testing equipment and apparatus such as spectrophotometers, analytical balances, electron microscopes and the like.

  • Collects, processes, classifies and catalogs specimens.

  • Conducts psychology, sociology or education experiments on studies involving human subjects; compiles data and makes preliminary analyses.

  • Teaches laboratory techniques and instrumentation procedures to students and laboratory technical support staff; and counsels them on technical problems.

  • Keeps abreast of trends in field of interest by reading professional journals and attending meetings, institutes and seminars.

Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with major course work in field of assignment required.

  • 1 year of related work experience involving direct assistance to researchers required.

  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $21.36 - $29.90 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
