The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Responsibilities:

Performs research laboratory assignments, routine and limited in nature, in accordance with established practices and procedures.Responsibilities Entry-level research technician for three distinct laboratories in the biology department. Under the supervision of each respective PI (faculty member), the technician will work to provide critical support for research activities and to maintain fruit-fly stocks. 51% Oversee some day-to-day operations of the Larracuente, Ghaemmaghami, and Meyer laboratories such as: maintaining lab supplies, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, keeping and updating laboratory records and inventory, maintaining fly traps, preparing growth media, changing CO2 tanks, maintaining liquid nitrogen storage tanks and CO2 incubators, preparing protein gels, buffers and common reagents for biochemical assays, maintaining and calibrating shared scientific equipment and maintaining compliance with University and federal safety regulations. 35% Maintain fruit fly (Drosophila) stocks, which are essential for research in the Larracuente laboratory. Must have good organizational skills and will be expected to carefully document all activities in a well-organized lab notebook. The successful applicant will work well with researchers with a wide spectrum of expertise and education levels. Training in Drosophila husbandry will be provided. 10% Serves as a back-up for preparation of fruitfly culture media, which entails weighing, mixing, and cooking liquid media, dispensing into hundreds of vials/bottles, allowing it to solidify, adding plugs to vials/bottles, and delivering the media to participating laboratories. Training in the necessary techniques and methods will be provided. 4% Aid in establishing and maintaining genetic crosses and scoring progeny in the Larracuente laboratory. While not a required component of the position, there will be opportunities for the technician to do basic molecular biology if interested, depending on the qualifications of the technician. Some basic understanding of genetics and experience with Drosophila genetics is highly desired, but not necessary. Qualifications: Good communication and organizational skills are required for the position, as well as flexibility and a can-do attitude. Ideal candidate will be reliable, conscientious, and enthusiastic.
