University of Rochester Laboratory Technician IV in Rochester, New York
POSITION SUMMARY:
To provide research support by independent or semi-supervised coordination and execution of experiments to establish the function and therapeutic targeting of various oncogenes of interest in myeloid leukemia to the principal investigators Dr. Jeevisha Bajaj in the James P. Wilmot Cancer Institute and the Department of Biomedical Genetics. The goals of this project are to identify novel regulators of disease progression and determine their mechanisms of action in an effort to develop novel therapies for myeloid diseases. This individual is expected to conduct in vitro and animal experiments and process/use human or animal tissue samples to design and conduct experiments that should support publication of manuscripts in scientific journals and grant proposals in timely manner. This position requires that the individual be able to conduct, troubleshoot and assist in redesigning experiments as needed.
TYPICAL ASSIGNMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the design of flow cytometry panels. Compensate and assist in analyzing flow cytometry data and perform flow cytometry analysis. Prepare cells by staining for flow cytometry analysis, multi-parameter flow cytometry and cell sorting, using scientific techniques such as cell sorting and immunohistochemistry.
Animal experiments, breeding and maintenance of wild-type and gene specific knockout mice under development. Xenografting cancer cells in irradiated immune-competent of in immunodeficient mice, monitoring disease
progression, analyzing tumors post sacrifice.
Perform cell culture and manipulation of human cell lines including cloning for in vivo and in vitro experiments and assist with general lab assays including genotyping, gene expression analysis by RT-PCR and western blotting etc.
Analyze and interpret data, participate in regular lab meetings including presentation of results. Develop figures and write methodologies for results to be published or included in the grant applications.
Oversight responsibility of lab supplies, safety compliance, overseeing the utilization/maintenance of various instrumentations and lab equipment.
REQUIREMENTS:
Associate’s degree or degree in biological sciences with 4-5 years laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Expertise with animal experiments, breeding, colony maintenance, xenograft implantation in nude or NSG mice, multispectral imaging flow cytometry, microscopy and molecular biology techniques including cloning and PCR are essential required.
Candidate must have excellent command of oral and written English language and work in a collaborative work environment. Candidate must be able to work with rodents and must complete human subjects research training required.
Proficiency in Prism Graph Pad, MS Word, Excel, Photoshop, PowerPoint, FlowJo, and statistical software. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be necessary.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $21.36 - $29.90 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
