The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Performs complex laboratory assignments, planning and conducting experiments of limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project. Leads tasks associated with research activities and lab support for lower-level technicians. Serves as unit operations liaison to ensure compliance with departmental or University policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of University resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and proceduresSchedule 8:30 AM-5:30 PM Responsibilities General Summary: The laboratory's broad research focus is on inhalation toxicology. More specifically, we study how inhaled particles and gases affect the respiratory tract and other organ systems, including the cardiovascular and central nervous systems. We employ a variety of techniques for in vivo and in vitro exposures and measure outcomes at the tissue through molecular levels that allow us to understand inflammatory and other stress responses. The candidate will complete a variety of research-related tasks according to practices and procedures that are either standard in the field or established in our laboratory. The candidate will be responsible for: maintaining rodent colonies, record-keeping and basic data analysis, assistance with animal protocol submissions and modifications, maintaining compliance with laboratory and animal safety regulations, maintaining inventories, placing orders for supplies, maintenance of lab instruments, assisting with exposures, collecting tissues and other samples for analyses, carrying out routine assays (cell biology, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques in cells and biological tissues), facilitating collaborative work with other laboratories, assisting trainees in bench research, and assisting with the preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals. Execution of experiments will require proficiency in skills and techniques that include, but are not limited to: basic math and quantitative reasoning skills as pertinent to laboratory work, strong written and oral communication skills, ability to work within a team, willingness to grow in independence, rodent handling, performing injections, RNA isolation, quantitative PCR, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, immunocytochemistry, and immunohistochemistry. Initial and annual refresher training for compliance with laboratory, lab animal, and biosafety is required. Interest in and willingness to learn new techniques are essential for this position. Responsibilities: Lab Techniques to be performed: Western blotting, immunostaining, immunohistochemistry, RNA/DNA isolation, RT-PCR, animal husbandry, biological sample collection, tissue sectioning, performing experiments and assays, basic analysis of results, and record keeping. Assist undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows with learning and performing assays, routine techniques and methods, and procedures for their experiments. Duties include maintaining the colonies of transgenic and knockout mice: Breeding of mice, record-keeping, animal protocol submissions and modifications, working closely with Vivarium and DLAM staffs, ordering new rodents. Keep track of various training and annual updates for all laboratory personnel so that the labs are in compliance with these offices. Ensure all other laboratory personnel are up-to- date on required laboratory and animal usage training. Orders equipment and laboratory supplies, sets up experiments, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment. Duties will include filing of order forms, keeping schedule for equipment maintenance, maintenance of computer records for lab and equipment, maintenance of chemical inventory, interact with sales representatives, cleaning and storing of glassware, oversight and record keeping for hazardous waste disposal. Plans and conducts standardized technical procedures and lab experiments. Sets up and operates equipment or instrumentation. Oversee and maintain laboratory. Maintain laboratory supplies and inventories (chemicals, animals and equipment). Serve in a managerial role to maintain laboratory inventory and address needs for instrument repair. Collaborate with other personnel within the laboratory and investigators from other laboratories. Participate in lab meetings and individual meetings. Assist the Principal Investigator with preparing figures, data sets, and written text for grants and publications. Other projects and job duties as needs arise. Qualifications: - High Schol diploma of GED - Associate's degree in Biological or Life Sciences or Bachelor's degree. - 5 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Experience in animal (mouse) work and handling multiple tasks at the same time. Experience in routine biochemical and molecular biological techniques, and practical laboratory and animal experience are desirable (preferred). - Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. - Must be willing to handle animals (mice) and animal tissues. - Good organizational skills, ability to use good judgement, and demonstrate attention to detail. - Ability to work independently and the capacity to design, organize, and analyze experimental data. - Strong basic quantitative reasoning skills. - Experiential knowledge of the workings of an academic research laboratory, including general knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology methods. Microscopy skills are beneficial (preferred). - Prior experience in handling research animals, tissue culture, molecular and cell biology methodology and/or knowledge of immunologically-based techniques are desired (preferred).
