Compensation Range:

$15.38 - $24.52

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Performs complex laboratory assignments, planning and conducting a complete project of limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project.Schedule 8:30AM-5PM Responsibilities GENERAL PURPOSE: This position serves to provide human tumor tissue processing support for the Biobank Shared Resource (BSR), a Wilmot Cancer Institute core service laboratory. The Laboratory Technician (LT) will support daily tissue collection operations under the direction of the Biobank Director. To this end, the LT will be responsible for procuring tissue samples from the operating room and processing them into assay-ready samples for storage. The LT will also be responsible for performing standard laboratory assays on sample subsets, which may include flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, quantitative PCR, and/or cell growth/proliferation/clonogenicity. Beyond tissue collection and processing activities, the LT will carry out routine BSR laboratory duties, including the management of laboratory supplies, hazardous waste/chemical records, and equipment maintenance. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Collect, process, and bank human tissue specimens following BSR standard operating procedures. - Perform standard laboratory assays on subsets of human tissue samples. - Collect and record of experimental observations and results, including review and interpretation of assay results. - General laboratory management including the maintenance of supply inventories, equipment, hazardous waste/chemical records, and compliance with health and safety regulations. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's Degree required. - A minimum of 1 year of related work experience involving direct assistance to researchers; or any equivalent combination of education and experience required. - 2 or more years of experience in a biomedical research laboratory preferred. - Understands laboratory research protocols, procedures, and universal assays required. - Operates general laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuge, ultra-low temperature storage, CO2 incubators, dissection tools) required. - Understands and follows data integrity standards and processes preferred. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written communication preferred. - Ability to work independently, as well as a member of a team preferred. - Strong organizational skills, ability to use judgment, and demonstrate attention to detail preferred.
