Compensation Range:

$18.00 - $23.40

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Assist pharmacist in the operation and maintenance of the pharmacy's drug distribution system, with a focus on quality and accuracy, patient care, and customer service. Under supervision of a pharmacist, and consistent with state, federal and local regulations, prepare medication orders for dispensing. This includes, but is not limited to, processing orders through pharmacy computer system, entering patient information into computer system, operating automated medication management systems and technology, and physically preparing medication doses for pharmacist's review/final check prior to delivery to the patient or patient care areasResponsibilities GENERAL PURPOSE: Assist pharmacist in the operation and maintenance of the pharmacy's drug distribution system, with a focus on quality and accuracy, patient care, and customer service. This includes, but is not limited to, processing orders through pharmacy computer system, entering patient information into computer system, operating automated medication management systems and technology, and physically preparing medication doses for pharmacist's review/final check prior to delivery to the patient or patient care areas JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: PREPARATION OF MEDICATION DOSES - Processes orders or dispense requests through the pharmacy computer system; including data entry where applicable. - Prepares medication order based on requests or recipes including: obtaining correct medication, determining the number of doses required for the defined time period, packaging medications in accordance with applicable laws, completing logs where required, utilizing safety check procedures where required such as bar code scan confirmation, and assisting the pharmacy in obtaining medication from ancillary areas when needed. - Operates and maintains automated systems or technology that is part of the medication preparation process. - Performs medication re-packaging processes where applicable to meet patient care needs or stocking requirements. MEDICATION STORAGE AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT - Performs medication area inspections for quality assurance and communicates any immediate concerns to a pharmacist or supervisor for further action. - Monitors inventory levels consistent to meet patient care needs and communicates any concerns or recommendations to a pharmacist or supervisor. - Stocks medication areas appropriately, including automated systems, to meet the needs of the patient(s) based on demand. - Rotates stock effectively, checking expiration dates to minimize waste and remove any expired medications from the area. - Ensures proper storage requirements for medications, including oversight of monitoring systems where required for temperature and humidity control. CUSTOMER SERVICE - Employs courtesy and uses constructive communication with pharmacy colleagues, customers, patients, and all hospital staff. - Triages phone calls and handles medication requests appropriately, deferring all clinical decisions to a pharmacist for follow up. - Utilizes effective service recovery techniques to troubleshoot and solve problems that may arise in the medication use system, and communicating resolution to appropriate staff in a timely manner. - Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. DELIVERY OF MEDICATIONS - Utilizes medication delivery systems efficiently, including pneumatic tube systems and hand-delivery, and performs any required documentation for transfer or tracking of medications. - Responds to any urgent requests for medication delivery as overseen by a pharmacist to meet acute needs, including directly to patient care areas, medication stocking areas, or equipment. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES - Able to complete other assigned tasks appropriate for certified pharmacy technicians including projects or assignments overseen by a pharmacist related to the medication use process. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required. Required to be at least eighteen years of age at the time of application. Previous pharmacy experience is preferred. Required to be of good moral character including application of ICARE values. Required to have active certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program (Currently PTCB) and maintain ongoing education requirements.
