Job Responsibilities:

Team/Individual Responsibilities include:

  • Actively manage more than 3000 Windows or macOS workstations for faculty, staff, and labs using Intune, MECM (formerly SCCM), Jamf, and other management tools.

  • Provide tier 3 support for approximately 2000 faculty and staff.

  • Manage approximately 1000 file shares and 300 printers for faculty, staff, and student use.

  • Create and script software distribution packages to support approximately 1000 application deployments and security patches of all PCs, Macs and servers.

  • Ensure that supported platforms are supported, monitored and maintained throughout their full life cycle

  • Identify and maintain appropriate hardware and software technologies that are essential to the integrity and function of computing environments

  • Work with partners across the distributed IT community to gather requirements, communicate changes, develop strategies for services; build and manage relationships with relevant vendors to evaluate, purchase, and implement new and emerging technologies

  • Provide support for services used 24x7 by the campus community, including potential for on-call rotation responsibilities

  • Evaluate and recommend technology used in ITS-supported areas, including determining our standard laptop and desktop offerings.

  • Open, close and monitor tickets in a ServiceNow environment.

  • Troubleshoots wired and wireless client network connections.

  • Involvement in building IT Asset Management process

  • Software license management

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors or equivalent experience, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science

  • 2 to 4 years of related information technology experience managing client devices

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Windows client operating systems

  • Intermediate/practical knowledge of macOS, Windows Server. Knowledge of Linux and Unix operating systems a plus

  • Familiarity working within a Microsoft Windows Active Directory environment and using security group policy objects

  • Familiarity working with a mobile device management (MDM) solution

  • Intermediate/practical understanding of computer security practices and specific tools that protect computing environments, including a solid understanding of server, network and desktop security

  • Customer support experience in an IT environment

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge working with imaging and software deployment through MECM (Formerly SCCM) and/or an MDM solution

  • Familiarity with properly configuring firewalls and IPsec for least privilege access.

  • Familiarity with antivirus software, such as SentinelOne Endpoint Security or Microsoft Defender for Endpoints

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong working knowledge of Windows operating systems

  • Experience configuring or administering an MDM solution, preferably Microsoft Intune

  • Python, Bash, ZSH, or Powershell scripting experience

  • Ability to work independently and make effective decisions

  • Ability to stay current in new technology; technical curiosity

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Able to deal with stress; demonstrates adaptability and successful multitasking skill

  • Strong customer service and written/verbal communication skills

  • Experience in an environment with a mature IT Asset Management process

Job Summary:

The Client Engineering team is responsible for the systems and tools that keep our end user computing environment running. As a Platform Engineer, you will design, integrate, deliver, and provide consultation and operational support for systems that our client devices rely on to get the software, operating systems, and security updates they need.
