PRODUCT ENGINEER

SUMMARY

Responsible for providing complete engineering specifications for original equipment orders. Includes preparation of calculations, drawings, product structures and ASME Code documents for standard and modified standard equipment. Working with CAD Modelers/Designers, Technical Sales, Manufacturing Engineering, Planning and Operations, the Product Engineer will perform the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities. This is an in-person role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs ASME Code and mixer mechanical design calculations. Oversees design and preparation of drawings and approves and releases product designs for manufacture or procurement.

  • Approves and releases product design for manufacture or procurement. Contributes to improvements in designs for ease of manufacture and assembly.

  • Reviews orders for Original Equipment, identifying and requisitioning long-lead materials.

  • Reviews customer specifications and exceptions for agreement with internal order documents.

  • Evaluates condition of equipment returned for repair/reconditioning, establishing new ratings.

  • Assists Technical Sales with review of customer requests for quotations.

  • Frequently interfaces with customers to resolve technical issues.

  • Approve, interpret and create manufacturing drawings including GD&T.

  • Ensures engineering standards for existing products are maintained, this includes completing the Engineering Change Notice process. This includes existing product maintenance projects.

  • Evaluates processes by designing and conducting research; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.

  • Supports LEAN by developing and following standard processes to minimize process and quality variations (standard work).

  • Understands and ensures compliance with ASME B&PV Code Section VIII requirements and documentation.

  • Understands heat treating, welding, machining, and fabrication methods and processes.

  • Leads engineering projects and process improvements.

  • Maintains product and company reputation by understanding and complying with government regulations and company policies.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Contributes to team effort by being self-motivated and accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited four-year College or University. 2-5 years’ experience working in engineering. Design experience with ASME Code pressure vessels utilizing PV Elite, Compress or Design Calcs is preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures/manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex ASME Code documents.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Competent with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.),. and CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
