Town of Irondequoit Recreation Supervisor in Rochester, New York

TITLE: Recreation Supervisor SALARY: $51,041 hire rate LOCATION: Irondequoit Community Center

Job Summary: We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Recreation Supervisor to join our team at the Irondequoit Community Center. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and leading recreational activities for individuals and groups with a primary focus on Fitness and Athletics. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of our community members and create memorable experiences. The right candidate will have proven experience in leading recreational activities, preferably in a community or youth-centered setting, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with individuals of diverse backgrounds and age groups and will demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Responsibilities: Directs and supervises a balanced recreation program. Supervises and participates in the planning and implementation of recreation programs. Assigns and supervises recreation staff and part-time, seasonal, and volunteer workers. Prepares publicity for programming. May coach and officiate at team sports and games. May assist with budgeting. Administers basic first aid as needed.

Civil Service This is a competitive Civil Service position. You may be eligible for transfer if you hold permanent competitive status in the title of Recreation Supervisor. Otherwise, your appointment will be provisional. You must meet the minimum qualifications outlined below and you will be required to take the next Civil Service Exam for Recreation Supervisor and be reachable on the certified list.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus, EITHER: (A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Parks and Recreation, Recreation and Leisure, or a closely related field; OR, (B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree, plus one (1) year paid or volunteer* full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in recreation or related activities,* OR, (C) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Recreation, Parks and Recreation, Recreation and Leisure, or a closely related field, plus two (2) years paid or volunteer full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in recreation or related activities, OR, (D) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree, plus three (3) years paid or volunteer* full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in recreation or related activities, OR, (E) Four (4) years paid or volunteer* full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in recreation or related activities*, OR, (F) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), (C), (D) and (E) above. *Volunteer experience must be documented by the participating agency. Employment dates, average number of hours worked per week, and job duties must be included. *Employment as a program director or instructor of physical education, music, studio arts, dance, dramatics, or similar activities will be considered as a related activity.
