University of Rochester Research Technician IV in Rochester, New York

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Genomic Resource Center (GRC) at the University of Rochester is seeking a creative and motivated candidate with strong interest high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technologies for the Lab Technician IV Sequencing Specialist postion. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in molecular biology techniques necessary to process samples through quality control workflows, preparatory work for HTS library construction and sequencing, and sequencer operation following standard operating procedures. In addition, the candidate should be broadly knowledgeable in various molecular biology techniques and be capable of efficient multi-tasking. The GRC is a highly interactive environment with opportunities to engage in cross-disciplinary collaborations that span clinical and basic science research. Candidates with a strong background in molecular biology and genomics are highly encouraged to apply for this position. This position is located in Rochester, NY and located within the Wilmot Cancer Institute. The candidate will report directly to the Director of the Genomics Research Center (GRC) and will operate with supervision.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Process RNA, cDNA, and DNA samples through quality control workflows, including data analysis and result interpretation. Identify problematic samples and communicate with QC Supervisor regarding possible solutions.

  • Nucleic Acid extraction/purification, including RNA and DNA.

  • Sample submission liaison, including sample retrieval and return

  • Setup and maintain shared instrumentation. Ensure instruments are working properly and contact technical support, as directed.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cold storage and restocking of lab supplies.

  • Attend lab meetings, meeting with supervisors, attending educational seminars

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Associates degree in Health Science, Biology, Chemistry or other science related field of study preferred.

  • 5 years of experience with performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities; compiling and collecting data and preparing reports required.

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • OSHA safety requirements; scientific methods required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $22.59 - $31.63 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
