Compensation Range:

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Serves as principal assistant to a Senior University Executive, Dean, or a Director, providing office supervision and coordinating support service; manages the general office and related administrative services of a large academic department; manages specialized support functions in a University service department, a college or large project; performs related duties.Responsibilities Position Summary: The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and directing the Central Sterile Processing Department. The SPD Supervisor coordinates with the OR schedule and assures effective utilization of surgical instruments. The SPD Supervisor participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and standards of care and monitors the compliance. The SPD Supervisor is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the Department, Hospital. Principal Responsibilities: - - - - - - A. Clinical/Technical/Service - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks: - - - - Participates in the formulation of department policies and procedures. - - - - Coordinates the planning, implementation and reporting of the quality improvement process for the department. - - - - Investigates and takes appropriate action when employee accidents occur and takes preventive action to prevent further occurrences. - - - - Participates in the handling of human resources and employee related matters such as interviewing, hiring, disciplinary process, promotion and termination. - - - - Maintains delivery of services congruent to standards of practice, policies and procedures to achieve compliance with regulatory agencies. - - - - Participates in the department budgeting process. - - - - Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of the Central Sterile Processing Department personnel and materials. - - - - Reviews and analyzes trends of case cart usage. - - - - - - B. Organizational/Managerial - - - - - - - Participates in the department's performance improvement activities. - - - - Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information. - - - - Observes the Health Care System's compliance policies. - - - - Reviews the utilization of staff and distributes responsibilities to maximize performance and productivity. - - - - Recommends and justifies need for new items for surgical use. - - - - Manages staff appropriately through transition for optimal implementation of change. - - - - Reviews clinical performance of personnel via anecdotal records, conferences and evaluation process. - - - - Serves as a resource person for staff within the Central Sterile Processing Department. - - - - Determines equipment and supply par levels. - - - - Upholds safe environment by monitoring cleanliness, potential hazards and electrical safety within the Central Sterile Processing Department. - - - - Oversees various department projects. - - - - Works collaboratively with other departments for the improvement of service in the department of Central Sterile Processing. - - - - - - C. Educational/Professional Development - - - - - - - Participates in the development of other staff members. - - - - Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements. - - - - Identifies learning strengths and needs - - - - Utilizes learning resources. - - - - Maintains membership in related professional organizations. - - - - Keeps employee informed of new items, purpose, function and responsibility for care. - - - - - - D. Communication/Relationships - - - - - - - Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community. - - - - Fosters a professional, productive and effective relationship other departments through open communication and constructive feedback. - - - - Collaborates with support services to create an environmental optimal for the delivery of services. - - - - Assists, initiates, and participates in committee activity. - - - - Ensures ongoing communication with the leadership of Peri-Operative Services. - - - - Provides general supervision to ensure effective operation of Central Sterile Processing Department. - - - - Establishes and maintains a record system for inventory and control of supplies and equipment. - - - - Participates in the recruitment and retention program of Central Sterile Processing Department. - - - - May be required to perform other duties as assigned or perform other duties when necessary. - - - - - - Minimum Qualifications: - - - - - - - Bachelor's degree with course work in Business or Hospital Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - - - - IAHCSMM or CBSPD Central Sterile Processing Technician Certification or a substantially equivalent credential - - - - - - Preferred Qualifications: - - - - - - - Knowledge of specific health care products, patient care equipment and basic use is required. - - - - Must hold comprehensive knowledge in inventory control, supply distribution, receiving, reprocessing techniques and principles, production management and regulating agencies standards. - - - - Must hold comprehensive knowledge and experience in surgical instrumentation, microbiology as it relates to SPD and OR, cleaning procedures, disinfection, sterilization, and the care, handling, disassembly and assembly of hospital equipment and surgical instruments. - - - - A good knowledge of medical terminology, including surgical procedures, human anatomy and of current and developing trends in area of professional expertise is required. - - - - Must have a good working knowledge of computer technology and software programs including work processing spreadsheets, and power point applications. - - - - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. - - - - Knowledge in Instrument Tracking Systems
