Job Summary :

The Crisis Recovery Peer Advocate provides mobile (on-site or in-community) peer support services to children, adults, and families who are or have recently experienced acute crisis . The Crisis Recovery Peer Advocate provides a wide range of non-clinical crisis support to individuals who are experiencing an escalation in behavioral health symptoms and assists individuals in navigating their own recovery process. Activities performed by the Crisis Recovery Peer Advocate include but are not limited to providing individual advocacy, empowerment, recovery support services, prevention, outreach, engagement, hospital diversion, information and referral, self-help, safety/crisis planning, planning for the prevention of setbacks, assisting in the development of psychiatric advance directives, relaxation, resource brokering, as well as health and wellness coaching .

Must Have Qualifications:

  • Highschool Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Valid NYS Drivers’ License

  • Lived experience - your own struggles or have supported / cared for someone facing mental health or substance recovery challenges

  • Willing to participate in peer certification training, acquiring CRPA-P no later than 4 months after employment.

    Nice to Have Qualifications :

  • Certified Peer Support Specialist (NYCPS) trained by OMH or OASAS

  • Certified Peer Advocate (CRPA)

Compensation:

Our pay structure includes the following components:

  • Hourly Base Pay : $19.00 - $21 an hour.

  • Community Crisis Stipend : In addition to your base pay, you will receive a stipend for handling community crisis situations. This stipend recognizes the critical role you play in providing immediate support during urgent circumstances.

  • Shift Differential : Additional compensation may apply for evening shifts.

Job Requirements:

Duties:

  1. Greet and orient individuals as they present to the center.

  2. Provide advocacy and support individuals and families in their understanding of services provided.

  3. Model recovery and promote shared understanding by sharing your own recovery process and teaching effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.

  4. Collaborates with the treatment team and collaterals throughout the duration of the crisis stabilization treatment episode.

  5. Collaborate with the service recipient and clinical crisis staff on discharge planning to broker resources and identify in-community support.

  6. Work with families on parenting skills development, empowerment, coaching, engagement, bridging and transition support, self-advocacy, self-efficacy, community connections, and natural supports related to family support and engagement.

  7. Provide referrals for ongoing in-community peer support to individuals and families.

  8. Attend group supervision with the peer supervisor monthly.

  9. Provide peer support services to individuals and families throughout the crisis treatment episode.

  10. Utilize engagement strategies and facilitate engagement to community resources.

  11. Provide outreach to the individual and collaterals within 24 hours of transitioning from crisis care.

  12. Assist in the development of service plans, WRAP plans, and crisis plans.

  13. Serve as an active member of the interdisciplinary care team, including participation in team meetings.

  14. Provides case management, resourcing, and service collaboration for individuals as an extension of case management services.

  15. Maintains accurate documentation.

  16. Helps increase community awareness of services available.

  17. Maintain peer certification and continuing education requirements.

  18. Tier 2 staff are expected to model leadership and help support Tier 1 peers.

  19. Other duties as assigned.
