Veit & Co Inc Intern - Project Manager/Estimator - Minnesota in Rogers, Minnesota

Job Description: Veit's Field Estimator/Project Management internships offer college students the opportunity to translate their academic knowledge into practical experience through real-world construction projects, including Earthwork, Utilities, Foundation, Demolition, and Marine. This internship is particularly beneficial for those aiming to become Project Managers or Superintendents, providing hands-on experience and personalized mentorship. Interns will work closely with seasoned Project Managers and Superintendents, gaining valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities associated with these critical positions. Mentorship: Receive guidance and mentorship from experienced engineers and project managers Professional Development:You will have the opportunity to develop skills in project management, site operations, and construction engineering Networking: You will build professional relationships that will make an impact on your career A Day in the Life at Veit Reviews plans and specifications to determine the scope of the work required for the project. Reviews jobsites before bidding to make appropriate estimates. Completes accurate takeoffs utilizing software. Also performs hand takeoff quantities for various aspects of each project. Calculates quantities (square yard, linear feet, cubic yard, each, etc) for each project to factor materials needed and material movement. Solicits quotes from subcontractors for bid preparation and final numbers. Keeps DBE/MBE requirements in mind with subcontractor invitations to bid Constructs bids by adding activities (work to be completed), crews and equipment, adjusting production rates. Prints out bid proposals and create proposal. Reviews bid with estimator or project manager. Observes the change order process. Attends project meetings. What You'll Need Attends project meetings. Minimum of 1 year education working toward completion of bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Construction Management or Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related discipline from four-year college or university; or 1 year of education with 1 summer of construction work experience. Ability to work with field concepts and work in the office Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, and mean, median and averages. Ability to maintain compliance with all Veit policies and procedures. Ability to respond to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment with a can-do attitude What Will Set You Apart Prior experience using Familiarity with construction takeoff, bidding, and/or estimating software is preferred. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret project plans and specifications. Other Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check Who Are We?
