Job Description:

The Royal Canin Operations Manager position is the key resource at a Site to led and integrate the efforts of operating teams across multiple shifts to ensure that the quality products are safely manufactured in sanitary conditions as well as assesses impact to quality and food safety of product with each situation that poses potential risk.

This position serves on the Plant Leadership Team and acts as an expert on site process and pack operations. The position is responsible for efficiently and effectively managing within cost goals and produce sufficient quantities to meet our customer's demands all the while helping lead a culture where engaging conditions are created for each Associate. The position is accountable for the housekeeping and sanitation operations for the mixing/extrusion/packaging areas of the facility. The positions will also provide leadership and motivation on strategy, FMOS, and Associate Development within the scope of operations Associates. Additionally, the Operations Manager will actively participate and at times serve as a lead on any regional work clusters to help drive regional performance where applicable.

The Operations Manager will champion the Five Principles in his/her actions. Personnel safety will be the first priority followed by product quality / food safety as well as food defense. Customer service, brand protection, cost management, and associate engagement are also deliverables. The role is inclusive of leading PPI Associate and supporting plant trials or innovations received at the site.

The key stakeholders for the Operations Manager role include the Site Director, Regional IE, Regional QFS, Regional HSE, Regional PandO along with Global Formulations/RandD leaders.

What are we looking for?

  • Guaranties compliance to safety, quality/GMP-GHP, housekeeping/sanitation and environmental standards and rules, and efficiency programs in full alignment with Mars rules and Five Principles
  • Manages and coaches all production leaders (Shift Managers along with Pack and Senior Process Leads) through effective leadership on Great Line Management.
  • Engage all of the Operations Associates into site strategy and delivery
  • Implements WOW that accelerate results delivery and full ownership of the FMOS process and principles
  • Drives all operational KPIs (TRS,ATS,OEE,NQC, Productivity) as a key enabler of site delivery (MCCs/NQC/PCC)
  • Applies CI mindset on all aspects of the operations performance (KPI delivery, organization, management systems, mindset and behavior) - Inputs on CI/PPI projects/modifications requests (new products, efficiency).
  • As a key Leadership Team member, contributes to all activities that will drive the Royal Canin business toward its future. Supports and develops cross functional ways of working and "line of one" mindset and approach. Shapes the future of his/her functional and proposes specific strategies.
  • Deploys and makes his/her direct reports and roll-up deploying consistent and persistent engagement program (Gallup focus and action plans) through a foundation of HPC teamwork and individual accountability.
  • Proactively manages associate relations issues; guides and directs the hiring and ensures effective labor strategies are in place including staffing and forecasting plans, training and motivation of Operations associates following HPC principles and a clear and efficient communication.
  • Develops a working environment and a mindset that increase all operation associates engagement into site strategy
  • Ensures a smart translation of site priorities into individual and team objectives and goals
  • Develop multi-skills and sustains operators functional capabilities to be autonomous and involved; pushes down in the organization the lean principles and behavior for all leaders within his/her span.
  • Leads and develops processes, tools and skills in order to reach higher quality and cost ef ective performance according to the standard policies
  • Participates to the improvement of the manufacturing equipment and processes in a close cooperation with site technical teams.
  • Advocates and actively supports the site Operating System (FMOS/MSE). Proactively coaches direct reports and others in delivery of all the Operating System.
  • Identifies the long term associates development needs of the business in order to propose and implement adequate actions (process of multi-skills and multi-competencies to optimize operations).
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of the capacity and resources issues facing the factory and functions at both strategic and tactical levels in the management and decision making process.
  • Be custodian of labor cost optimization (associates and temporary workers) and ensures action plan on absenteeism with PandO
  • Food defense team leader by delegation; risk analysis and action plan management.
  • Back-up of the Site Director

Job Specifications/Qualifications

Education and Professional Qualification

Post Secondary Education or significant equivalent experience obtained through 10 years of on Manufacturing leadership roles

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain preferred

Knowledge/Experience

(7-10) years' experience in manufacturing/industrial environment

Operational Leadership experience

Food industry or consumer packaged goods industry a plus

Production supervisor (Shift Management) experience mandatory

Experience in Directing and Developing of Diverse Teams of Associates

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • The Rolla Operations Manager reports to the Site Director. He/she is a part of the Plant Leadership Team.
  • Site Operations Manager with accountability for day to day operations inclusive of human safety; food safety and quality of product; delivery of operations plan; creating engaging conditions within GLM framework.
  • Visible leadership driving a Continuous Improvement culture at the site and within the Business
  • Provides tactical dotted-line leadership to shift managers, direct leadership to site's continuous improvement associates as well as PPI, additionally direct leadership to the site's senior process lead associates.
