Roseburg Studmill

Full-time/Long-term

Position Title: 950 Front End Loader

Reports to: Sawmill Supervisor

Department: Studmill

Swing Shift: 10-11.5 hour shifts or more, with three 10-minute breaks, and a 30 minute lunch.

Wage: $22.85 Hourly (.30 cent shift differentials).

Position Purpose: Use a Caterpillar 950 Front End Loader to unload blocks from the LPC outfeed, and place into block rows or directly onto the Sawmill infeed. Clean debris from the block yard area. Perform moderate to light maintenance of the Loader. The Operator must be willing to be cross trained in other positions in the LPC and log yard.

Position Functions:

Essential Functions*

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job .

  • Keep up with the Sawmill. The 950 Operator cannot allow the Sawmill to run out of wood.

  • Daily fluid level and (preventive) maintenance check of front end loader.

  • Keeping the mill operating efficiently by feeding a steady supply of blocks from the Blocksaw and placing them into block rows or onto the Sawmill infeed.

  • Remove logs at Blocksaw outfeed kickers.

  • Yard clean-up. Attach bucket and scoop debris to be used as hog fuel.

  • Routinely conduct visual maintenance inspection of Front End Loader.

  • Perform (preventive) maintenance per schedule (grease, oil, fuel). Report any discrepancies to supervisor.

  • Communicate clearly on radio with crew members.

    Non-Essential Functions

    These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.

  • Dump waste boxes.

  • Clean up.

  • Keep the machine clean and blow out radiator and engine compartments

  • Operate in a confined area with high traffic.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Working Environment : (1) Inside 90%, average temperature 70 degrees F (2) Outside 10%; extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Fumes: Wood, Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Wood particle, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: None

    Personal Protective Equipment Required : (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Rubber or Leather based gloves when handling dry veneer. (4) Approved Footwear.

    Physical Demands: See the Physical Capabilities as listed below; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, bilateral use of arms and hands, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 30 lbs.

    Skills : Must have excellent hand eye coordination. Use vision/hearing continuously. Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc.

    Worker generally works alone with little supervision. Operators must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task. Ability to prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions.

    Safety : (1) Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery. (2) Always use our 14 step lockout/ tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. (3) Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don’t over reach, get help as needed to push loads out). (4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection). (5) Be aware of and communicate with your co-worker at all times (ex: forklift driver). (6) Will be required to read and write during safety training.
