TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E098 Construction Inspector VI - Fort Bend/Waller Area Office in Rosenberg, Texas

Oversees inspection of construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications; works in a metropolitan area of a metropolitan district; acts as consultant regarding work progress and highly advanced problem resolution on complex projects. Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for final approval of all engineering-related work. May lead the work of professional and technical employees, trains others. Work requires contact with contractors. May perform material tests/manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product. Essential Duties: Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.Assists Project Engineers in determining number of inspectors needed on assigned projects.Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.Consults with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.Ensures inspectors turn in monthly estimates in an accurate and timely manner to facilitate payments to contractors.May serve as a lead worker or project leader.Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans and ensures adherence to approved safety standards.Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.Trains and mentors less experienced inspectors on work methods.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
