Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber and Composites (MCCFC) is composed of several companies, but at its core there are two. In April 2013, two California Companies, Grafil, a carbon fiber manufacturer in Sacramento and Newport Adhesives and Composites, a prepreg manufacturer in Irvine, were merged to create Mitsubishi Rayon Carbon Fiber and Composites (MRCFAC); then in 2017, we re-branded to MCCFC. Mitsubishi MCCFC Division is seeking a, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a team committed to excellence, continuous improvement and driving sustainable business results. The Mechanical Engineer is monitors, develops, and upgrades the effectiveness of the facility maintenance program to promote Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Productivity improvements. Directly involved in planning of preventative and predictive maintenance systems. Analyzes equipment failures and determines root causes, failure methods, and corrective actions. Drives improvement in reliability of the facility’s equipment. Responsible for engineering projects including design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning. What You Will Do...

  • Provide technical guidance and training to production, maintenance, and engineering teams for troubleshooting, testing, routine operations, and emergencies. Ensures that all maintenance operations meet Safety, Environmental, and Quality requirements through routine observation and active participation in the ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 programs.

  • Drives continuous improvement of equipment and maintenance processes at the facility in the areas of: Safety, Sustainability, Reliability, and Automation. Develops new or updated processes, process logic, procedures, and work instructions.

  • Completes detailed documentation related to equipment maintenance and project management including Maintenance Procedures, Troubleshooting guides, Parts Inventory Procedures, Equipment Specifications, P&IDs, PFDs, Risk Assessments, and Calculations. Calculates failure rates of equipment due to methods such as fatigue, corrosion, and wear. Calculates task completion times for maintenance time allocation.

  • Conducts investigations of unplanned shutdowns and incidents then determines root causes in coordination with other team members, focusing on equipment failures. Proposes corrective actions to address these root causes.

  • Identifies and develops the procedures, schedules, and training for Inspection, Testing, and Preventative Maintenance of the facility equipment. Defines replacement cycles, test/replacement criteria, and part specifications.

  • Maintains and improves the maintenance parts inventory program for the facility equipment. Defines the inventory control procedures, minimum part quantities, and required tools.

  • Utilizes the facility CMMS system to plan and distribute work orders, track inventory, respond to maintenance requests, and generate maintenance reports.

  • Gathers and interprets data from processes and equipment to maintain and improve the process. Inspects equipment, the process, and process records within the manufacturing facility. Utilizes gathered data to identify premature failure of equipment or abnormal operating conditions. Submits technical reports of gathered data for review by other employees.

  • Promotes self as a team member. Actively participates in meetings related to managed projects, the department, and technical operation of the facility when required.

  • Exhibits exemplary conduct at all times with other employees and outside contractors. Contributes to a healthy, positive, and safe environment.

  • May be assigned, and be expected to perform to acceptable standards, any other relevant related duties as required by management.

What You Will Have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, mechanical engineering preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.

  • Experience working in a carbon fiber manufacturing facility preferred.

  • Ability to operate office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. Experience with MS Office software. Experience with engineering design software. AutoCAD, Inventor preferred.

  • Ability to interpret industrial control system schematics and PLC program functionality. Experience with Allen Bradley / Rockwell architecture preferred.

  • Familiarity with OSHA PSM, California Safety and Environmental regulations preferred.

  • Able to lift, pull, push, and carry tools, equipment, and carts. Ability to stoop, kneel, and crawl to access equipment. Ability to climb stairs and ladders to access equipment and platforms. Ability to open hatches, lids, and doors to access equipment. Able to be trained to operate an aerial lift.

  • Ability to operate radios, valves, buttons, switches, and touchscreens. Ability to use powered or hand tools to assemble or disassemble and adjust equipment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with technical writing preferred.

Pay Transparency (complete highlighted sections)

  • The salary range for this position is $80,300 - $121,500. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
