Description
Summary:
This position requires an individual capable of supporting chemical processing operations within a metallurgical lab environment, with additional job functions in metallurgical and mechanical testing. Primary job duties include titrations, bench chemistry, reagent standardization, process acceptance testing, and support of chemical process development to ensure products are manufactured with the highest quality. Additional job duties include mechanical property testing and metallurgical sample preparation. This position reports directly to the Metallurgist and will reside in UMBRAGROUP's Linear Motion facility located in Saginaw, MI.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performing titrations and bench chemistry to determine process chemical concentrations
- Making and standardizing reagents
- Supporting audit preparations related to chemical processing
- Interpreting standards and specifications related to chemical processes
- Supporting development of new chemical processes and improvement of existing processes
- Creating procedures and forms
- Performing mechanical testing
- Performing metallographic sample preparation
- Writing reports
- Keeping records
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements

- Experience with Microsoft Office applications
- Familiarity with chemical processes used in a manufacturing environment preferred, such as black oxide, copper plating, and passivation
- Experience with AMS or ASTM standards preferred
- Ability to interact positively with individuals in different roles
- Excellent communication and solution-oriented attitude
- Detail oriented
- Strong desire to maintain a clean and organized space
- Willingness to be involved in a hands-on way with operations
Education/Experience Preferred:
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing or laboratory environment
- Associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Other Qualification:
- Due to ITAR regulations must be a U.S. Person
Language, Math, and Reasoning Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, set-up sheets, travelers, procedure manuals, and government regulations. Ability to write reports, work instructions, and communicate effectively with internal customers.
Computer Skills:
Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office and other software as required by the job. Must be open to new technology.
