Fairbanks Scales Inc. Sheet Metal Operator in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont

Summary

To manufacture all standard and special products through various sheet metal operations.

Essential Job Duties

  • Sets up and operates machines such as power shear, drill press, brake, rolls, band saw, and punch/brake presses.

  • Performs CNC programming.

  • Performs passivation and tumbling processes as required.

  • Troubleshoot equipment and parts as required.

  • Plan and perform a sequence of operations where standard or recognized operation methods are available and make general decisions on quality, tolerances, operation methods, and setup sequence.

  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and protocols; actively model safe behaviors and identify potential hazards to prevent injury to self or others.

Required Qualifications - Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)

  • Needs to have a High School diploma or GED.

  • Trade School education or equivalent work experience.

  • 1 to 3 years' experience in sheet metal processing preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills and abilities commonly associated with this position.

  • Critical thinker with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to perform basic CNC programming, operating, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints, and/or work from sketches, and written instructions to produce required sheet metal products.

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and productive business relationships.

  • Ability to perform advanced shop mathematics.

  • Ability to use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.

  • Have broad shop trade knowledge.

Work Environment

  • General factory conditions including potential exposure to moderate noise levels, metal processing chemicals, dust, dirt, heat, fumes, cold, noise, vibrations, moisture, etc.

  • The typical schedule is weekdays 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm

  • Must be able to don PPE including, hearing protection, safety shoes, or glasses/goggles where required in the on-site manufacturing areas.

  • Ability to use equipment such as manual and automated press brakes, manual and CNC punch presses, plasma cutter, grinding tooling, rolls, spot and stud weld, shears, band saws, polishing and finishing equipment, and material handling equipment such as fork trucks.

  • Required to use close vision and be able to focus.

  • Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.

  • Able to stand for long stretches while processing parts.

  • Continuous mental and or visual attention where the flow of work is repetitive, or the operation requires constant alertness.

  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.

  • Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on machinery, computer, telephone, and related office equipment.

  • Sustained physical effort requiring continuity of effort lifting, moving, and working with light or average-weight material requiring continuous activity and the operation of several machines

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
