Willamette Valley Bank Commercial Loan Officer in Salem, Oregon

Position Summary: The Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for developing and maintaining strong long-lasting relationships with both credit and non-credit customers and engage them to understand their financial needs and provide thoughtful solutions.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Oversees the successful delivery of exceptional customer service through leading by example.

  • Successfully markets loan and deposit services to current and potential customers.

  • Successfully solicits and maintains profitable long-term lending and deposit customer relationships.

  • Works with their Manager and Chief Lending Officer to develop the proposed lending marketing strategies and annual objectives.

  • Presents credit requests to lending management to secure business on behalf of the bank.

  • Responsible for ongoing credit management of the assigned loan portfolio including overseeing loan delinquencies.

  • Responsible for daily outbound customer and prospect calling activities.

  • Negotiates terms for the extension of credit, including costs, repayment method and schedule, and collateral requirements. Ensures the proper documentation of loans as specified.

  • Reviews the status of current loans outstanding and performs follow-up activities as necessary. Analyzes the continued creditworthiness of each customer. Ensures compliance with all terms of each loan. Acts on past due accounts in accordance with bank policy and procedure to ensure the collectability of such accounts.

  • Gathers and analyzes borrower’s periodic financial statements with respect to changes in borrower’s capacity to service bank obligations.

  • Oversee the periodic review of individual credit quality metrics with respect to the appropriateness of risk ratings on individual credits. Responsible for recommending upgrades or downgrades.

  • Analyzes financial and related data and reviews specific circumstances of each loan. Prepares or oversees loan presentations for Senior Management and the Board and other applicable loan committees.

  • Participates in the bank's support of positive development and CRA related activities in our communities.

  • Personally participates in Chamber and other activities as appropriate for community involvement.

  • Ensures compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to lending.

  • Comply with all applicable policies and procedures as well as governing laws and regulations. This includes but is not limited to: performing all assigned duties under the Bank’s compliance program and related laws and regulations. Successfully completing all mandatory compliance training including BSA and any other training as assigned in a timely manner.

  • Participates in staff, management, and committee meetings and presentations.

  • Creates informal and formal written communications for internal and or external customers, management, employees, etc.

  • Maintains continuous study of financial news and lending services to keep informed of economic and financial conditions affecting the lending environment.

  • Overall performance will be measured annually based on the above Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities, as well as individual loan and deposit growth goals that are assigned by the Chief Lending Officer.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of laws and regulations governing lending and collection practices.

  • Knowledge of computer programs and systems used in lending .

  • Strong problem resolution and prevention skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of Small Business and Commercial C&I Lending, including the Small Business Administration Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Thorough knowledge of Commercial Real Estate lending.

  • Proven ability to develop and manage a commercial loan portfolio.

  • Ability to analyze financial statements and monitor portfolio performance.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of customer service to a variety of customers.

  • Ability to work as part of a team.

  • Ability to adapt to change quickly and be self-motivated to create opportunities for business generation.

  • A willingness to achieve working knowledge of bank products to help meet customer needs.

  • A willingness to engage in community outreach to develop networking and referral sources.

  • Ability to systematically gather, read, retrieve, and interpret data.

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline; and three-five years related successful experience in bank lending; or equivalent combination of education and experience .

    Mental and Physical Effort:

    Decision making involves important choices in applying rules, regulations, policies and procedures to the work that needs to be made without regular supervision or approval.

    Lifting equipment or files of 1-10 pounds on a regular basis, lifting equipment or boxes of 10-25 pounds on an occasion. Sits or stands for long periods of time working at a computer and typing. Uses hands to handle controls or feel objects, tools or controls. Audio/Visual: Ability to accurately interpret sounds and associated meanings at a volume consistent with interpersonal conversation. Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio; e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media.

    Working Conditions:

    Works in a customer facing position in an office environment with minimal workplace hazards and low to moderate levels of noise. May deal with customers or visitors to the workplace who may be upset or pose challenges. Works during the day and during the week, some positions may require working on weekends. Regular travel to other work sites, conferences, training or meetings required.
