About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced leader to lead a critical area in Cloud Control Plane. The leader will be part of the Cloud platform, which enables Confluent to build in the cloud in a safe, reliable, and scalable manner. The Cloud platform is a Tier-0 infrastructure and is essential for the overall experience for our Confluent customers. As the leader, you will be responsible for enabling infrastructure that powers all of our products around the world and on a global scale. You will be responsible for defining the vision, leading and growing a highly performing engineering team, and planning and driving cross-team efforts to solve complex distributed system challenges at scale.

What You Will Do:

• Own the overall vision and execution for the specific area in Control Plane including, but not limited to defining the developer experience and building the next-generation platform

• Work closely with product management and other key stakeholders across various teams in Confluent and Confluent Cloud to build and drive the overall roadmap

• Deliver high impact to the business by driving important technical initiatives in areas comprising (but not limited to) security, reliability, multi-tenancy, architectural direction, and major component refactor across organizational boundaries

• Work with engineering teams and product on critical aspects of product definition, architectural design, and delivery

• Influence the overall domain health and operational hygiene for the Cloud Platform

What You Will Bring:

• 10+ years of experience in software development and 6+ years in leadership and management

• Technical expertise in large scale systems engineering or distributed systems

• Expertise in building and operating large scale distributed systems in public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP) and storage services like Amazon DynamoDB, Google Cloud Spanner, etc

• Ability to influence the team, peers, and upper management using effective communication and collaborative techniques

• Ability to hire while ensuring a high hiring bar, keep engineers motivated, coach/mentor, and handle performance management

• A great track record of timely shipping features and have a sense of urgency, an aggressive mindset towards achieving results, and excellent prioritization skills

• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent

This position has an annual estimated salary of 248,850 - 267,390 USD, an annual bonus, and a competitive equity package.
