We have an exciting opportunity in Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT) Vehicle Engineering (VE) as an Engineering Technician level 2.

Who We Are?

Mack Trucks, in 2020, established its Roanoke Valley Operations (RVO) manufacturing facility to produce the Mack Medium Duty (MD) Series. This growing facility is dedicated to the assembly of Mack medium-duty vehicles, adding to an already robust product lineup to reach new customers and applications.

Mack Medium Duty Engineering is part of the global Volvo Group Truck Technology(GTT)Vehicle Engineering development organization.

Vehicle Engineering secures our customers’ success by leading and developing of the Volvo Trucks North America and MACK vehicles. As product owners we develop the most attractive and profitable Heavy & Medium Duty trucks solutions in the industry. We work as one development team: supporting each other to secure delivery according to decided product plan, and we proactively recommend new technologies for future customer needs.

Job Summary

Work within a team of technicians and engineers to prepare, develop, and build / modify our Medium Duty engineering development trucks. This may include: mechanical labor, prototype development, installation and troubleshooting of vehicle systems. Will also include the driving of Class 6 and 7 (CDL levels) and may require travel from time to time.

Reports to the Director GTT Mack Medium Engineering & Range

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Completes workshop-related assignments to support product development validation engineering activities

  • Applies organized, systematic, and detailed mechanical methods to fulfill goals of assignment relating to vehicle components or systems. Assignments are related to various phases of both larger or lesser projects that may involve significant repair or modification to vehicles

  • Participates in departmental resource-planning activities

  • Maintains a well-defined relationship with engineering staff including GTO personnel located at RVO factory,

  • Maintain a current CDL in order to operate vehicle

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • High School Diploma. Associates preferred

  • Min. 5 years of truck/trailer service experience

  • Experience with Service tools, diagnostic equipment is required; including Cummins & Allison service and tools, as a preference

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift 50 LBS

  • Bending

  • Be able to squat

  • Prolonged standing/sitting

Personal Skills

  • Requires

  • Understanding of Medium & Heavy-duty truck systems and functions

  • Understanding of A/C Systems; complete understanding of AC/DC Electrical Systems

  • Ability of troubleshooting technical problems

  • Must have Strong PC skills - Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.

  • Must be willing to travel

  • Obtain Class A CDL

  • Preference

  • Basic understanding of PIL, tech tool, PROTOM & KOLA
